Substance abuse, cocaine addiction and .AIDS will be among the topics to be addressed at the 35th annual session of the UofU School of Alcoholism and Other Drug Dependencies, to be held June 7 on the UofU campus, t ' "The . variety of program sections and presentations amply meet the needs of professionals, business executives and lay people widhing to learn more about substance abuse or become involved in contributing to community efforts of combatting alcoholism and drug abuse," Gary Jorgensen explained. Jorgensen, who serves as director of the school, pointed out that there will be sections dealing with specific issues, each guided by a section leader with experience in the field and topics to be covered. Sections being offered focus on treatment, specific professional drugs, programs for employees, the criminal justice system, school counseling, education and prevention. Jordan School District has released a schedule of upcoming high school graduation exercises, beginning Tuesday at Valley high school and Adult Evening high school. Valley high's exercise will start at 7 p.m. in the Bingham high auditorium. The theme will be "That's What Friends Are For." Representing the district ad- ministration will be Marline A. Fair-bourwhile awarding diplomas will be school board member Don A. Carpenter. About 156 graduates are expected. The adult high school graduation will take place at 8 p.m. in the Alta high auditorium with 95 graduates expected to be on hand. The theme will be "This is Our Silver Lining." George F. Copeland will represent the administration with school board president Jane C. Callister presenting diplomas. On Wednesday, graduation exercises for South Park Academy will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the State Prison Chapel. Thomas L. Owen will be the administration representative and board member Richard W. Blomquist will present diplomas to 32 graduates. Exercises for the district's six regular high schools will all take place on Thursday, June 5. A graduating class of 570 is expected for Alta high's commencement program, set for 7 p.m. in the field house. The theme will be "May We Always Have the Courage to Be n, Ourselves." Board member Maurine C. Jensen will accept the class and Jane Callister will award the diplomas. Bingham high seniors numbering 360 will receive diplomas in exercises conducted in the school auditorium under the theme "To Strive, To Seek, To Find." The program will get under way at 7:30 p.m. Superintendent Raymond Whitten-bur- g will be in attendance. r Brighton high will graduate 565 seniors in excercise scheduled for 7 p.m. "A Journey of a Thousand Miles Must Begin With a Single Step" has been selected as its theme. Thomas Owen and Don Carpenter will represent the district administration and board at the proceedings staged in the auditorium. A total of 506 seniors will close out their high school experience at Hillcrest high during exercises scheduled for 7 p.m. Hillcrest has selected as its theme "Two Roads Si verged in a Wood and I Took the One Less Traveled by, And That Has Made All The Difference" from the poem by Robert Frost. D. Richard Gourley and Richard Blomquist are slated to attend. The program will be held either in the stadium or gymnasium, depending on the weather. Jordan high's exercises will start at 8 p.m. with L. Ray Brown of the district staff accepting the class and presenting the diplomas to an estimated 281 graduates. The theme for this year's program will be "Here We Leave Today and Enter the World of Yesterday, Tomorrow and Forever." The school's gymnasium is expected to house the proceedings.
