Show 10 Thursday, January NEIGHBORS 30, 1984 Ramses II Studies Are Completed At Eastmont SANDY. Molding foil into death masks was just one of the exmidperiences a group of Eastmont dle school student had in an enrichment study of Ramses II. 1 Teacher specialist, Larry Perkins, the explains that several teacherstoat take school felt that they wanted advantage of the opportunity students would have of seeing the exhibit at BYU. Teachers planned together to create a study of Ramses II and his times. Those interested students met on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays during the 45 minute block of time after school set aside for resource and enrichment tivities. One day they heard a lecture and discussion of how mummies were created and why they were done. One teacher presented a slide show ,". "1 with explanations of ar- tifacts and Egypt. Students learned about Egyptian mythology, language and writing, Teachers Marge McClure and Ann White helped students create death masks. Mr. Perkins explains that the students had books and pictures of death masks to stuay. Then they pressed the foil over their faces to create the masks. The masks were mounted on card stock. Then the students were free to decorate them how they wanted to. Some were exact copies of pictures, others were very unusual death masks, he says. of the They completed their study ancient king by travelling to see the exhibit at BYU this week. Many of the students were accompanied by parents. Several faculty members also attended. "It was nice to see the students in atmosphere, in a a fun setting. We don't get to do that very often," he points out. He feels that the programs has been very with a lot of positive response from both students and parents.
