Show NEIGHBORS 6 Pays Visit To South Jordan Store Green Sheet Staff Writer SOUTH JORDAN. My ritual of running to Montie's for a couple of gallons of milk was turned into a pleasant surprise when I found parking a problem Friday night. "Boy, there must be on heckuva sale," I thought as I fought may way through the door. I was greeted with an enthusiastic smile and told, "We have Muhammed Ali here." I laughed and responded, "That's a pretty good one," then turned and e stood with "The face-to-fac- Greatest." My heart seemed to fall into my stomach and I must have looked as stupid as I felt. Immediately I began to gather information as to one of my idols was paying a visit to South Jordan, a place where most Utahns haven't even been. My admiration for Ali increased as I heard why he was there. Earlier in the day he had visited Primary Children's Medical Center and the LDS church headquarters where he met with Apostle David Haight. "He's a very personable guy," says Montie Brock, of Montie's Bestway. "As I was owner-operat- ' aDout to open the business las year, I received an autographed picture from him, saying, 'Good Luck with the store.'" Robert Chastain of South Jordan is a boxing promoter and introduced Brock to the champ and every know and then Montie receives a call or letter from Ali. When asked by a Salt Lake newsman why he was in Utah, Ali explained that he planned to visit the hospital, church headquarters and South Jordan to have some of Montie's chicken. And that's exactly what he did. In two hours, he met about 1000 and South Jordan passersby residents who came in to greet him and perhaps get an authgraph or for a small child, a kiss. In the middle of the rush, Ali took time to relax and ate some of what he proclaimed the "greatest chicken ever boxed." He was "arrested" by South Jordan police who were on hand to charge him with stealing chicken, as part of the evening's fun. The former champion spent about . two hours with Montie Brock and his family before spending the night and part of Saturday at the Chastain home. For those who just happened on the scene, it was a thrill. SANDY.
