Some 135 students from Siler Mesa elementary are planning to sing their way through Utah in a special program on Jan. 31 at 1:30 p.m. During the musical tour the students will never actually leave Silver Mesa, but they will visit the nine regions of Utah. Script for the musical tour was written by Janis Hanson. Other advisers are Dale McCleod, Joan Madsen and Carolyn Bona The teachers and their students have been working for several weeks to learn lines from the script and songs. They have prepared pictures to be projected on a screen of the points of interest in the nine areas. Students from Alta high under the direction of instructor Robyn Bishop have helped the Silver Mesa students with speaking parts on the program. Parents and anyone interested from the community may attend the program at 1 : 30 on Jan. 31 . On that special day all 135 of the students will be costumed in dyed red, orange, yellow and green with big black letters which say Draper Elementary School DRAPER. Draper elementary will formally introduce the "Great Brain" program to students and their parents at a meeting to be held at the school tonight (Thursday). Designed to promote individual research and creativity, the program will encourage students to select a topic, study it in depth through many different sources, and then schedule a presentation which will be made before an audience cf school mates, faculty, family and friends. Andrew Keddington will be the professor in charge of the touring Silver Mesa students and Shelly Karren will be the bus driver guiding them on the tour. The group begins with a rousing song "Are You From Utah" and follows with "Here's to Utah." Then everyone sets off to visit the Golden Spike region with a song "Clickety Clack" and a skit which the driving of the Golden Spike when the railroad was completed and west and east met at Promontory, Utah. Bridgerland is next on the tour agenda and. Edward Harmon will d tell "A Tall Tale' after which Utah will be characterized by the song "I Love the Mountains." Dinosaurland is next on the schedule and the boys and girls will sing "Dinosaur Diet." Fantasyland is not only in Disneyland. The program Is under the direction of Janice Hanson. SANDY. Students at Sprucewood elementary have been receiving help in workshops sponsored by the PTA. Principal Dale Ahlberg says the workshops assist the students with pointers for the Reflections contest. Next week is Dental Week. On Tuesday dentist Bryan Smith will visit the school. He will spend a half day giving demonstrations and teaching students about dental health. On Feb. 5 the fourth grdaers will be putting on their own version of a circus. It is in conjunction with a story unit they have been studying, he explains. and the song "Flight of Fantasy" pays tribute to it. Canyonland will be described by the song "Indian Song," and Color Country will be the site for an old fashioned Square Dance and then a melodrama entitled "With an Empty Jug" will be presented. The students will pay tribute to Panoramaland with "Song of the Rocks." And they will visit the great Salt Lake and sing "Free to Be Me." The children close with a song that opens up invitation to explore more of Utah's wonders in person or through books. It will be "Hello Utah."
