ZIMMERMAN aeronautics . . . type- writers . . . writing for budding to field the biology nearby canyons trips . . . this is Summer School, 1968 style . . . vin the Nebo School District. Following instructions to "make it interesting," the summer staffs are offering adventures in learning which are not available during the regular school year. For elementary-ag- e students, the opportunities are varied. Enthusiastic young ham actors are writing, editing, and acting in their own movies at Grant Elementary School, Springville. Under the guidance of Eugene Johnson, the youngsters have produced a film on "playground safety," and are now preparing a "funner," about "Stanley, the 'Nice' Caveman." More than 60 young adventurers are exploring the canyons during the weekly combined field trips for three classes in elementary biology taught at Springville, Payson, and Spanish Fork. Naturalists from the U.S. Forest Service and other agencies lend expert instruction. The Xual field trip will be n overnight campout. "He can't talk about anything else," reports the mother of one of the 10 to studying aeronautics. The youngsters are studying theory of flight, aircraft instruments, navigation, jets and rockets, space flights, and construction of models. Highlight will be an educational flight from the Spanish Fork Airport.
