Show Rugby y Team Jr. High Track Results At If the winter weather has nair) V x: ,.i n is prime 11P12 now to head for Lake. Best ,f the lllc" gprmK 16-1- f;h,. Y Invitational that trip to ttwell ,hould come curing uie next 6 So davs when th. gcr bass become belligerent as they nest and jro into the spawning period. The bass in Powell are still doing well, contrary to some reports. These say the average bass caught there is smaller than a couple of years ago and to this extent they are true. They are false when thev note very few larger sized bass are being causrht ' ..lr Attn m'n. jince luimctc tu iiuie puunus nave already been taken this spring. Best evidence of the bass doing well is shown by the several sizes and these fish be'ng taken last year and again this year. This shows successful reproduction from the original stocking of some three million bass into the lake in . , 1963-6- Wins 4. As so often happens in a new water these original bass made rapid growth. By 19G6 this original plant were running three to four pounds and these were what we were taking. Now the various age classes from natural reproduction in the lake are at all sizes and are coming to creel along with the relatively fewer big bass. In other words, natural reproduction in ihe lake assures the long term bass fishery and at the same time forecasts fish of all sizes as opposed to one age class of big fish as we first knew the fishing there. And now is the best time to get t the larger bass while they are active and near the surface during the spawning period. If one has seen the dam and lower lake facilities the camps on the upper lake will look rather primitive. So will the road to Bullfrog which will likely not be completely surfaced until late this fall. However, if one has but a coupie of days to spend on the lake then our choice would still be to go Bullfrog way. The road from Hanksville to the lake still calls for slow speeds where construction is going on but is much improved over even last year. The ramp at Bullfrog is not yet completed but the marina is in operation, boats car be rented if one wishes, and boats can be launched without unless it would be to wait your difficulty turn on a crowded weekend. The Bullfrog, Hall's Creek, and other nearby arms of the lake afford some of the best fishing for those with limited. time to travel the big pond. It is about the same distance from the ramp there to Rainbow and other scpnic points down lake as from the manna at Wahweep. For those who have several days to spend on the water the starting point may just as well be either end of the lake and take your fishing where you find it. And you'll find it at its best during the next few weeks. Odds and Ends Spring range rides confirm the prediction of very little winter mortality in our deer herds. Not surprising that Jerry Dahlberg reports some fawn loss in the Diamond Fork herd, with the only con siderable loss being down in the San Juans where unprecedented early winter snows really buried the feed . . . Deer Creek should really "bloom" with the weather and isn't it nice to have trout fishing available so close to home in the spring? Like your bird hunting? If so, then from now until sarly August is a time when dogs should not be allowed to roam the fields . . . Yes, our angling regs do permit anything to be used as bait except iive fish or parts of game fish. Eggs or roe from game fish are not eonsidered part of the fish. Getting late to ask five weeks to go with about but only yourself it, until the general fishing season how about all that gear repair you were going to do this past winter?
