JONES HANKSGIVING "a day of religious to observance, set apart give thanks for the blessings' of the year . . . an occasion for family reunions, bountiful dinners and festivities in the home." So, from Plymouth in 1621 until Nov. 23, 1961, in Utah Valley the tradition of thanksgiving has flowed across the country, being observed over the years in many ways and in good times and bad. That first feasting ended a year of hardship that now offered hope for the future . with a bountiful feast from the late harvest despite the hostility of the new land. Today's family dinner party also includes "the counting of blessings" and a pause to consider '.vhat the past year has meant and to look forward to the days ahead with hope and confidence,, despite the pressures of an ever encroaching world. In our ..modern American society, good , harvests and victories over Indians are no longer causes for special rejoicing . . . but the celebration of a-- day when we take time "to "see what God has done" on our behalf finds most of us with, many, blessings to add up on the credit side of life's ledger.
