The city council has not yet approved or disapproved of this proposal. This route would curve westward of Brigham Young University property threatened by bisection if University Avenue "were extended due north. A second proposed route would turn west off University at 800 North, curving onto Second West at about 970 North; from whence it would continue north along Sec ond West parallel to and just east of the D&RG tracks. Provo School Board has opposed this route because it would bisect school property; Many routes have been consider ed since Utah State Road Com mission announced possibility of ' improving 189 north of Provo. Cost .of buying right of way to widen 189 at its present location would be prohibitive, reported state road engineers. First alternate location proposed was extension of University , Avenue, opposed by BYU because it would cut through its lands northwest of the main campus. It; was also' opposed by the vocational school and Medical Center. .Unless Provo speedily resolves indecision as to route and funds .are made available for ment" of 189, interstate traffic may move west to the freeway and not enter Provo at all, fear many prominent Provoans. jYCfRTIFIE vjoiv f "Jr luron blankets still in progress Bed-spread- Department's reaction to two proposed routes for relocation of U.
