Show ft SUN DAY HERALD 6A j Dorothy Dix 1959 The Question Is: To Love Or Not Before. Marriage By MURIEL NKSEN DEAR DOROTHY DDX: John and I have known each other-a- l most a year an4 have been going steady for past seven months. We were hoping to get married this coming spring, but as financial difficulties have set us back tremendously, we feel we couldn't afford to wed until the fall of 1961 or perhaps as far of as the spring of 1962. Both our families belilve we are. old enough and ready for marriage. John is 21 and I am almost 19. We foolishly ) have been letting our hearts, f not our heads, guide us. Neither of us are ashamed or think less of each other for it. But lately when I've been at church I ask the Lord forgiveness. Yet, at the; same time I feel our relationship was pure and clean. We are to be married, but please i . I 0 don't think I'm a mixi - up adolescent and please dbn't tell me I don't know what ! wint. John told me he understood aid would r , respect my wishes. We have both decided NOT to make love again until wi marry. It's easier said than done. John asked me about petting. Vas that taboo? Do you think intimacy between an unwed couple is sinful? And do you puit petting in the same category? f'Wonder-ing- " think but what you think that matters. If you are true to yourself, you are true to the dictates of your conscience. The important thing is that you and your finance be sincerely and deeply in love. Morals are largely a matter of geography. What is wrong in one country, is right in another. One virtue which the world values above all else, is sincerity. But no matter how sincere you love a long engagement simply won't work. To postpone your wedding . till 1961 is 4d "j-., DEAR "WONDERING"! Shakespeare said, "There is! nothing either good, or bad but! thinking makes it so." He also said, Above all, to thine. oWn self be. true, And it must follow, as . the night the day, Tholi canst not then be false to anyfman." These wise precepts lfold good in your case. It is not wlat others tempting fate.
