The company, which specializes in sports training at 120 training centers worldwide, has its headquarters in Park City. With the new partnership, all University of Utah varsity athletes will work with Athletic Republic’s training program, facilitated by university athletic trainers and coaches. The company’s equipment, including Super Running Treadmills, Pro Multi Hips and Plyo Press Machine, will be available to those athletes as well. NATIONAL ABILITY CENTER AWARDED AT&T FUNDS The National Ability Center received a $50,000 donation from AT&T in honor of Veteran’s Day. According to a press release, the center was scheduled to hold a ceremony on Friday, Nov. 10, where AT&T presented the money to the center, and veterans and their families participated in various recreational activities. The contribution was part of AT&T’s #ThankOurHeroes campaign, in which they donate to veterans’ organizations across the country. The NAC has several programs designed for veterans and active military members. PARK CITY MOUNTAIN SET TO KICK OFF NEW SEASON Park City Mountain Resort is set to host its winter kick-off event at the Park City Mountain Village on Saturday, Nov. 11 from 3 to 5 p.m. According to a press release, guests can pick up their Epic Pass and try new menu items for the upcoming season while meeting the avalanche dogs. Those with Epic Passes will be able to ride on the Alpine Coaster for free. The resort is scheduled to open the following week on Friday, Nov. 17. There will be live music, giveaways and complimentary hot chocolate and coffee beginning at 8:30 a.m. on that day. The first chair will leave at 9 a.m. Canyons Village is scheduled to open on Nov. 22. CAROLYN WEBBER The Park Record The ski resorts are busy making snow and the restaurants are cleaning and making last-minute repairs, but many business leaders took a break from peak season prep to meet at an annual fall forum. The Park City Chamber/Bureau hosted the Annual Tourism Industry Fall Forum and Luncheon at the Stein Eriksen Lodge on Nov. 9. Bob Wheaton, president and COO of Deer Valley Resort, Bill Rock, COO of Park City Mountain Resort, and Nathan Rafferty, president and CEO of Ski Utah, all spoke to a full audience of local business owners about the upcoming season, followed by keynote speaker Kelly McDonald. The event had great a reception, said Bill Malone, president and CEO of the Chamber/Bureau, in an interview following the luncheon. He said the event is always a good reminder to everyone about the importance of tourism on the local economy. “It’s our community’s DNA,” he said. About two months later, he was finalizing a deal with a client using the new currency. Smith, state manager of the Real Advantage Title Insurance Agency in Park City, recently made one of the first real estate transactions with bitcoins in the country and likely the first in Utah. The $3.5 million transaction was also one of the largest reported real estate deals to date using bitcoins. Bitcoin is a form of cryptocurrency created in 2009 that is tied to no banks or country. Its value is based on algorithms from computers dependent on its use in the marketplace. “It’s basically a stock that you can use via a credit card,” Smith said. While bitcoin has become popular in some corners of the internet, it is only recently being used to purchase real estate. The first recorded bitcoin purchase for real estate in the U.S. took place in California in 2014.
