STATE PARKS AND RESERVOIRS Celebration of Life honoring Steven Holcomb to be held The event will take place at Utah Olympic Park Submitted by USA Bobsled & Skeleton On behalf of the Holcomb family, the Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation and USA Bobsled and Skeleton invite members of the community to a Celebration of Life for Steven Holcomb on Saturday, June 10 at 2 p.m. at Utah Olympic Park. The Celebration and a reception will be held in the summer pavilion located behind the Quinney Welcome Center at Utah Olympic Park. An evening gathering of family, athletes, and friends will assemble to do a track walk at 9 p.m., with shuttle service starting at 8 p.m. Park City native, Steven Holcomb, participated in numerous local sports growing up, including soccer, football, basketball, baseball, running track and mountain biking. He spent 12 years ski racing with the Park City Ski Team and graduated in 1997 from the Winter Sports School of Park City. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boys Scouts of America and was active in many local community activities. Submitted by the Park City Running Club WASATCH-CACHE NATIONAL FOREST Park City Running Club has hit the ground running, liter- The Heber-Kamas Ranger District maintains trails and campgrounds in the Uinta Mountains east of Kamas. East Canyon (SR-65) is open from Milepost 3 to 13.2. Wolf Creek Pass (SR-35) is open from Frances to Hanna, while the Mirror Lake Highway is open to Evanston. As of Tuesday morning, Guardsman Pass (SR-224) is still closed to traffic. He made his first World Cup appearance in Calgary in November of 1998, competing as a push athlete for driver Brian Shimer. Steven Holcomb competed for Team USA in three Olympic Winter Games, making history in Vancouver 2010 when he piloted the “Night Train” U.S. four-man bobsled team to the gold medal. It marked the first U.S. gold medal in the event since 1948. In Sochi 2014, he went on to win bronze medals in both two- and fourman bobsled. Having competed for the U.S. since 1998, Holcomb also won five world titles among his 10 World Championship medals. He was a six-time overall World Cup champion, and 60-time World Cup medalist. Additionally, he served in the Utah Army National Guard for seven years (1999-2006) and took part in the Army World Class Athlete Program. Founder, Coach and Executive Director Rachel Taylor launched a pilot program in May that trained 38 youth runners in 4th and 5th grade. With the Spring Session complete, summer registration is now open to youth runners, ages 9-14. “We all know Park City is bursting at the seams with amazing athletes and countless youth sports programs,” Taylor said. “Yet, an organized running program for kids did not exist. So, I created Park City Running Club and this summer is our first full-launch to the entire community.” Taylor, along with Park City High School coaches Steve Cuttitta and Liis Rametta, will offer three practices per week, all summer long.
