Bob Martin, PCSC’s Director of Coaching, has been named Utah Youth Soccer Association’s Boys’ Competitive Coach of the Year. Bob was awarded the prestigious honor by Utah Youth Soccer Association’s Eric Landon at their Annual Gala in April. “I get great satisfaction out of teaching the game of soccer to our local kids. I, personally, can’t get enough of the beautiful game and I love to share my passion,” Martin said. Martin’s passion for the game is evident while he is teaching and coaching, but it’s even more apparent when talking with some of this current and former players. “Bob took over our team three years ago, when we were still playing in Metro,” Martin’s former player Owen Dufner said. “Under his direction, he developed our confidence, our technical skills and our versatility as players. He helped us to improve our decision-making on the ball, and we ended up going 20-0-1 to reach Premier in just a couple of seasons. Then there’s C1, C2 and C3. We were a C2 this year. Next year, that means we have C1, HC and then World Cup, so we’re three steps below World Cup.” The goal for next year is to bump up to the C1 classification, and so on and so forth. Park City Soccer Club provides its players with the flexibility of developing as soccer athletes through competitive play and technical training, while also pursuing the other competitive sports often that brings families to Park City in the first place, such as ski racing, freestyle skiing and snowboarding. Martin also puts heavy emphasis on creating opportunities and engaging for Park City’s Latino players. Under Martin’s tenure, the Club has grown to 25 competitive teams and five Academy teams, with over 450 participants. For girls and boys, ages 7 to 19, who are interested in pursuing competitive soccer, the Park City Soccer Club will be holding tryouts for its 2017-18 teams beginning May 22. Competitive soccer runs June through May, with league play scheduled throughout the fall and spring months. High school age athletes play an abbreviated annual schedule. Tryouts for players born in the years 2008-2010 will be held May 22 - 25, while tryouts for players born from 1999-2007 will be held May 30 - June 2. All sessions are held at Trailside Park and pre-registration is strongly encouraged.
