Show - First Entries Arrive For Springville Art Exhibit By EVELYN M. BOYER SPRINGVILLE There is more than green lawns and budding shrubbery in Springville to herald the approach of springtime, for arriving daily are the carefully - crated pictures from all parts of the United States in preparation for the annual April Art Exhibit. According to Mrs. Mae Huntington, secretary of the Art Board, letters of acceptance and many pictures have already arrived in response to the 200 invitations sent out to leading artists and art galleries of the nation to participate in the Springville art event. Among these are many artists who have not hitherto exhibited their paintings, as well as the perennial iavorites. Each artist is invited to exhibit two paintings. The exhibit will open Monday, April 1, with programs in the afternoon for junior and senior high school students, and in the evening for art patrons. Among the Utah artists .who have already made known their desire to participate are Elverta Jacobson, Warren B. Wilson, Emile Nizet, William J. Peters, Jack Vigos, George R. Dunphy, Verla Birrell, Rachel G. Taylor, Milton A. Nelson, Florence E. Ware, Roman Andrus, Ethel H. Slack, Cornelius Salisbury and Rose Howard Salisbury. From around the nation have come the replies from Percy L. Manser, Oregon; Aaron Bohracft Alexander Wisconsin; Hogue, Russel N. Swan, Oklahoma;, Emil J. Kosa Jr., C. H. Cham-berliHelen M. She was selected from among five finalists judged on personality, beauty and talent. Attendants are Miriam Furr and Sheila Averett. Winner of the atate contest will go to Washington, DiC, for the national contest, Weidenaar, Michigan; Conway Noland and Ruth D. Moss, Colorado; LeRoy E. Green, Mon tana; and many others. To date three prominent galleries have accepted invitations to participate in the exhibit: Midtown Galleries of New York; Vose Galleries of Boston, Mass., and Blue Door Galleries of Taos, New Mexico.
