Show - Rev. Robert H. Harper MCE MTHf l SON WE have often heard the foregoing fore-going words and as we examine ex-amine them we find there Is much truth in them. The word9 lead us to think of the close relation between be-tween a father and his son, and of the opportunities a father has to Impress upon his son the highest ideals of truth and right. We surely sure-ly find that in the majority of cases a son follows in his father's fath-er's footsteps. Recently the writer had the opportunity op-portunity of seeing a son succeed to the honored place long occupied by his father In the councils of his church. Being conversant with the case, the writer knew of the close fellowship of the two and of how well the younger had been preparing prepar-ing himself to take the full responsibility respon-sibility when the father should retire. re-tire. We cannot be sure that in all cases a son will follow in the steps of a good father, for circumstances may sometimes run counter to the good Influence and teaching of a good father. But we find that In the majority of cases, the right kind of father rears the right kind i of son. And that is enough to lead all men who are fathers to be the right kind and to exert over a son or sons the kind of influence that will live beyond the years. |
