I am' still ignoring the state of the world. Everyone else is, so why shouldn't I? Talk, talk, talk. But I will take a quick glance at the news. On page two of the Dec. 11th issue of TIME magazine, Utah comes into her own. "The state of Utah is famous for good management," it says here, and it is all complete with a blurb by, and I quote: "Mr. LeGrand P. Back-mapresident of Salt Lake City's and COST - CONenterprising SCIOUS city board of education" and I unquote. And guess why we have made the public eye? Why because we use Fairfax good cotton towels! Well, I only hope we get enough from this paid ad to help out our schools, which all-arou- nd n, Partridg are NOT in the pink of condition, in spite of our use of cotton towels. Pretty darned soon w hav$ got to decide whether it is economy we want or civilization dearie. ''Cost conscious" we ceri are, and if you don't be tainy lievfc it, inquire into the research departments that are at this mo4 merit withering on the vine for lack of funds, research that is just beginning to pay off, and- that is peculiar to this region and its problems. Are we ever a bunch of suckers and speaking of usin general, there is a darned good article in the Dec. 9th Saturday; "The Evening Post entitled, Trouble With You Yanks Is" . . . The author is Canadian, and speaks as one American to another, for after all, Canada IS American, you know. It starts on page' 29, and in case you do not takej the trouble to read it, I am going to put in this much and I quote: ". . . The only equality existing today is that of the leaky life raft on which leader and the led are all passengers far from shore." Unquote. Read the article dearie, and try to reconcile it with; our passion for proselyting. If there is such a word. Maybe I should say proselytism. Oh well, this ;brings us back to the state of the world again, and I will have; nothing to do with it (an state-meif ever I heard one.) I have fifteen million phone calls?to make, and sixteen million letters to write. These are follow-u- p qalls and letters. I have already made a like number of original calls. Besides this I am having a social life. I stay at home and do nothing for months, and then boom three nights out in a- row! The Bruckner Te Deum Laudamus I sang here not many summers ago, but it has been I should say twenty years since I sang Bach's Magnificat, and the same chills ran up and down my back as it did twenty years ago. It is an everlasting benediction to have sung such things or played them. As long- as you live the thrill returns. If you have participated in any activity, your enjoyment is always deepened, because you hear and see things that the ordinary spectator does not.
