Show THEATER Summer sensibilities Musical version of 'Pride and Prejudice' debuts OPENING: A MIDSUMMER NIGHTS DREAM" Sprites and fairies appear in Shakespeare's delightful romantic comedy. 730 p.m. opens Sat and runs through Aug. 23 (Thurs.-S- at SCERA Amber Foote HERALD andMon.)byUVSC'sDeptof CORRESPONDENT "It is a truth universally Theatrical Arts for Sundance Summer Theatre. Eccles Stage, Sundance, North Fork Provo ac- knowledged" ... that we've become a society addicted to that unpretentious little Victorian " author named Jane Austen. ' In particular, it seems we r can't get enough of her quickwitted tale of two people, namely, Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy, who are so likeably proud and prejudiced and so utterly unlikely to like each other until they fall in love. Yes, give us "Pride and Prejudice" in book form or film (there's at least three movie versions out there); however you want to serve it, we'll eat it up and spend hours arguing happily about which adaptation -- SCERA by Utah natives Deborah Morris and Ann Kapp Andersen, is being presented as a world premiere at the SCERA and will, Jerry Elison, of the production noted, stay true to Austen's style with much of the dialogue pulled directly from the book. "Deborah Morris, who wrote the books and lyrics," said Elison, "has done a clever job of keeping the flavor and phrasing of Austen's work intact, and Ann Kapp Andersen's music is dramatic and beautiful. It works quite well" The story, of course, focuses on the tempestuous relationship of the scandalously rich and austere Mr. Darcy and d and quick to the judge Elizabeth Bennett. The rest of the plot dances about them with a memorable group of characters, including an overbearing mother obsessed with marrying off her daughters, a sweet sister and gentleman at the mercy of meddlers, a smarmy clergyman, a rakish bounder and a wayward teenager. The production stars two local husbandwife duos: Brittni Bills Smith and David Smith playing the celebrated characters Elizabeth and Darcy, and Jennie and Curtis Goodman playing the counterpart couple, Jane and Mr. Bingley. Brittni Bills Smith said the n task of playing the d and (shall we say obsessed over) character of Elizabeth in the musical can be a bit daunting. "It's kind of intimidating FOR PEOPLE WHO SUFFER FROM FOOT PAIN A new book, written by a podiatrist who practices here in American Fork, Utah, is being ottered for free to local residents who are suffering from foot pain.
