Bri-tia- y ti . n Janet Carnesecca Deniece Wilson Liljenquist Our family's hero, Arthur Sigurdur Johnson, Jr., passed away Tuesday morning, April 3, 2008 at his home from incidents to age, he was 84 years old. Dad was born to a wonderful Mother and Father, Arthur J5igurdur Sr. and Lilly Jameson Johnson on March 6, 1924 in Spanish Fork. He was educated in Spanish Fork schools and due to the war going on and being the eldest son, left school to help support his family and work on the farm. He had high hopes to serve his country but due to a health concern wasn't allowed to go. Twenty years later, in 1967, he graduated with his high school diploma after participating in an Adult Education Program along with his wife. Their oldest daughter, Vina, graduated from Spanish Fork High School that same spring. One night Dad and his friends decided to drive to Nephi and see , if there were any cute girls worth , dating. He met the love of his love, Marian Irene Brown, and they had 59 wonderful years together. They were married June 6, 1947 in Nephi, Utah and sealed forever in the Manti Temple January 22, 1964. It's been a long 22 months for Dad since Mother's been gone; we know they are dancing now and forever inseparable. Dad was a hard worker and proud when he saw his children and grandchildren following in his footsteps. He was a jack of all trades and worked at Geneva Steels open hearth and pipe plant, Ironton, farmed, finished cement, butchered meat, and built homes. The best home he built was the one his family has lived and laughed in the past 53 years. After he retired he became quite the cook and spent more time in the kitchen than Mother would have liked him in her territory. His favorite dish was making a huge pot of ham hock and beans for all of his family to gather, eat, talk, and laugh for hours. Thanks Dad for all of the Bean Parties! Dad was a convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Da- y Saints, being baptized in 1963. He held many positions and served faithfully as a home teacher, Sunday School teacher, President of the Sunday School, various scouting programs, and a coordinator at the Spanish Fork Genealogy Extraction . ( Center. However, Dad's favorite service was when he and Mother were called to serve an 18 month mission to the California Oakland Mission from 1985 -- 1986 working with the Cambodian Refugees. ' Dad's hobbies and interests were many, which always included his family and special friends. He loved to fish, hunt, camp, oil paint, wood work, create lamps out of flowerpots, tinker with his 1930 Model A Ford pickup, and dance with our Mother. They belonged to the Squaw Peaks Good Sam's RV .. group for the past 20 years where many precious friendships were formed and cherished. He belonged to the Black Hawk Encampment organization, where he enjoyed his friends and participation with them One of Dad's grandsons is positive that if someone could get a good look at Dad's heart that it would be shaped like the country of Iceland. Dad was extremely proud of his Icelandic heritage and the opportunity he had to serve as a board member in the Icelandic Association of Utah, holding many positions; his favorite being the caretaker of the Icelandic Monument in Spanish Fork with the beautiful lighthouse, American, and Icelandic flags. Dad's survivors include children Vina and Mike Foster, George and Vicky Johnson, Terry and Lil Shepherd, Doug and Michelle Johnson Jack and Val Johnson, all of Spanish Fork and Margaret Upshaw of Ft. Defiance, Arizona, our families beautiful Navajo daughter and sister. Siblings Mae and Herb Wilson, Olive Bowman, Fred Johnson Shirl and Vivian Johnson and Scott Johnson all of Spanish Fork and Dawn Peery of Payson Along with 24 grand children and 43 great grand children He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Margaret Williams, Clark Johnson, and Kelly Johnson and a grandson Bryan Shepherd. We'll honor our Father on Sunday, April 6, at the Spanish Fork Stake Center located at 1006 East 200 South, Spanish Fork, from 6 ' -- 8 p.m., Monday at the Spanish Fork Stake Center from 11:45 am -- 12:45 pm, and at his funeral at 1 pm He'll be laid to rest in the Spanish Fork City Cemetery next to his sweet eternal companion, Marian Thanks Dad artd Grandpa for your many examples of how to love, work, serve, and share. We'll do our best to follow in your footsteps!
