She died in her home in Hobble Creek Canyon in Springville, Utah, facing sister-in-la- death with courage and grace, just as she lived everyday of her life. Alta spent her life in service to others and has requested no flowers, but in lieu do something nice for someone who needs a boost in life or have a family party. Alta loved the mountains and spent much of her life at the beloved Giles Ranch in the South Fork of Provo Canyon and the last five years in Hobble Creek Canyon. Life has changed a lot in Utah County since Alta's childhood days when she helped trail livestock up Provo Canyon on horseback each spring. Alta is a sweet mother to 4 children, Edward Andy (Mitzi) Peay of Orem, Utah, Don Peay (Sue) of Bountiful, Utah, Camalee Lewis (Butch) Grand Junction, CO and Ben Peay (Kelli) of Hobble Creek Canyon, Utah. Alta and Ed have 16 grandchildren. Alta was preceded in death by brother Charles "Bert" Giles and Tom Giles. She is survived by her sister Beth Brown of Tooele, Utah. Alta is the first to pass away of the Maeser Elementary Club Girls, a rarity today that for some 60 years, a group of 8 ladies remained active lifelong friends. She had two older sisters. Avis and Delayne who she loved and looked up to. She married Richard Lloyd Speir on Feb. 20, 1943 and after joining the LDS church in 1964, she was sealed to him on June 7, 1967 in the Cardston, Alberta Temple. They have 5 children: Bobbie L. (Robert) Jarvinen of Cohoctah, MI; William L. (Sonia) Speir of Anchorage, AK; Robin E. (Michael) Halverson of Spanish Fork, UT; Leslie A. Haacke; and Brian W. (Kathleen) Speir of Orem, UT. Her children were her greatest joy and she served them all her life. She was a dedicated wife and mother. After her husband passed away in 1984, she received additional education and worked for a short time as a secretary. When she retired, she entered the Foster Grandparent program and worked at the state hospital for a time and then spent several years rocking babies in the newborn ICU at UVRMC, She loved this work and did much good in nurturing the babies along during their recovery. Grandma Elinore, as she like to be called, left a great legacy with her great generosity and also her hand work. She loved to knit, do ceramics, crochet, make porcelain dolls, quilt, sew, and do crafts of all kinds. She was also a great genealogy enthusiast and did a lot of family research preparing hundreds of names for temple work. She had a great knack for remembering names and family lines which aided her in this work. She is survived by her 5 children, 24 grandchildren, and 23 cross-stitc- Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the Spanish Fork Stake Center, 1000 East 200 South, Spanish Fork. He was born October 28, 1922 in Mount Vernon, New York to George Julius I and Marian Hedrich Kossmann. They made their first home in Newport Beach, California, where George worked for the California Highway Patrol as a motorcycle officer. He was injured in a motorcycle accident, and retired from the CHP in 1962. George moved his family to Provo in 1967.
