I felt that my heart would burst just telling her about my sorrow. As I raised my voice and i n My mother is 82 years old and has lived with us for six years. She has every health problem imaginable and is in a wheelchair most of the 1 inci-de- nt started to cry, I burst out with this statement: "You are just so and can't pos; sibly understand what I am going through right now!" My mother listened with love and silently smiled at me as only a mother could.' I remember slamming the door and throwing time. She has the sweetest personality and smiles a lot. What I will remember most about my mother is our nighttime routine. After I tuck her in, place her pills and water within reach, and make sure she is warm and comfortable, I kiss her good night and she tells me: "I love you all the way to heaven, back and forth and ever." Here is the poem: 'Oh, the comfort, the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person, having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words, but pouring them all out, just as they are,.chaff and grain together, certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping, and with a breath of kindness blow the rest away. This poem has given me a lot of comfort over the years and brought back i. countless memories of my mother and her love for me. She sacrificed so much of her comforts as she raised 10 children and one ' grandchild. We came from a poor family and my mom did not even have an automobile. The years have gone by quickly and yet my ? memories still linger of my loving mother and her example of kindness for me. Abby: tivities with me. My mom loves to cook, and when I was a young child t spent many hours chatting with her while she bustled about the kitchen. Then when I was 10th grade, she went to work at the ; com- munity college. For the first time in my life, I came home to an empty kitchen. Even though , I was busy with school and my job at a restaurant, I still resented her absence. missed having her home, even though the money she earned helped me to fulfill my lifelong dream of traveling as an exchange student I traveled to Chile a month after my high school graduation and lived there for a year, attending school and living with local families. While there, I was hospitalized for more than two weeks with typhoid fever and felt very much alone, being unable to contact my family or even communicate well with the hospital personnel. especially missed my mom, and would fantasize about being able to visit with her. When I returned from Chile, I lived at home while attending the community college where my mom worked. I had been back for a few months when I woke up one day feeling achy and feverish. I had strep throat and lay in bed, miserable and in pain. Without say-ing a word, my mom stayed home from work and cared for me while I was ill. It's been 30 years since that time, and I still remember how loved I felt when my mom skipped work to care for her adult daughter.
