But the treats this weekend are in the form of ear candy which means you probably won't need your empty pillowcase. "Skalloween," the annual ska band showcase, will feature performances by local bands Two and a Half White Guys, Sauce, Side Dish and the Grams on Friday. Corey Fox, manager at Muse Music, and Terry Xan-tho- s organized the first annual ska band showcase 10 years ago. Back in the "heyday of the music," when ska was big, Fox said, the first ska concert featured Stretch Armstrong, a big local ska band that was releas ing an album around the time of All Hallow's Eve. Fox and his business partner decided to throw a huge Halloween party in conjunction with the album release and "Skalloween" was born. "It ended up being one of the biggest local band shows ever in Utah," Fox said, making reference to the 2,200 people in attendance. Fox also started Skank Patrick's, another ska band showcase held in March, e Skeaster in April and Day in July. (OK, we made up the last two.) But "Skalloween" isn't just a catchy name. Every year the showcase presents the public with something a little different for Halloween. Sometimes touring ska bands make appearances, sometimes local ska bands perform. "It's definitely one of the bigger Halloween events in Prbvo each year," Fox said. This year Provo is in store for a Two and a Half White Skinde-pendenc- Guys performance. "They're definitely the premier ska band in Utah," Fox said. Nate Robinson, singer and If you go . 3. Lose My Breath, Destiny's Child 5. She Will Be Loved, Maroon5 time." Two and a Half White guys will perform songs from their latest album, which was re? leased in April. The best part about "Skalloween," according to Robinson, is "playing in front of 200 kids." "We only get to do that once a month," he said. "It's cool be- cause they have energy. That's why they're there. They get to dance around. They all come to see you play." With new ska bands pop- - 6.
