Breinholt and band return to familiar stomping ground Elizabeth Bennett DAILY HERALD local favorite Perennial will Sundance .: and his annual outdoor concert on the Eccles Stage and he couldn't be happier about it. "I think it's the best venue in the state," said Breinholt. "Wen, maybe it's a tie with but it's outdoors and it's , mountainous, and ... I hear over and over again that it's a perfect mix with the music" The folk musician said that he and his band, Big Parade, are excited to reignite the yearly tradition of closing out the summer season at Sun- dance with a twilight concert, after missing it last year. "Long before I ever did my own concert there I would go to the plays every summer," he said. "I was a fan of the venue before I ever played there. I mean, most people who've been there fan in love n, si 1 -- 3? S 10 with it. It's one of our favorite concerts we do all year, the most involved concert we do ' aUyear." Last year's concert didnt come off because Breinholt decided to simplify by only per- forming at Thanksgiving Point, said Jennifer Tingey, programs director for Sundance. A contract was never negotiated for the show. (In contrast, this year Breinholt and the Big Parade will perform twice at Sundance, then play Thanksgiving Point a week later). This year, "He approached us about coming to Sundance again," Tingey said. "We're eager to have him. He's great and we're glad he's back." Breinholt said that he has already been working on material for these shows for more than a month, noting that the show wffl change from night to night. "We tweak our shows a lot," Breinholt said. "Our audience comes from a small enough base that we feel Eke we need to. We dont want people to stop coming back because k's the same show over and over." On the other hand, Breinholt said he does do some of the . . . - same things each show there are certain songs audiences never seem to get tired of hearing. He said there are probably five to seven songs that are re-quested over and over again. "Ballads have the most chehards behind them, although "You Wear Flowers' is huge ... I can never get away with doing a performance without You Wear Flowers,' " he said. "People really notice if it's missing." Even though Breinholt puts a lot of effort into writing and preparing a show, he said they also try to leave room for a lot , , of spontaneity. . "We have a set&st and a format that we follow, and I even plan when I'm going to explain a song, teD the story behind it," Breinholt said. "But I've found if I get too tightly planned, it doesn't go as well as if I leave it a little loose and flexible. The best moments in our concerts, literally an of them, have been' surprises." . ; - . , . Goods, Oara featuring Petty Pablo 2. Lean Back, Terror Squad 3.
