PHARMACY S -- 800 North, Orem. toww.walkerfamilynxatuaricom. SALT LAKE OTY US. Department of Agriculture Secretary Ann Veneman has signed a declaration making all 29 Utah counties eligible for drought assistance, state agriculture officials said Wednesday. The designation came after extreme drought conditions prompted Gov. Gene Walker to request federal disaster assistance last month for thousands of fanners and ranchers hit hard by prolonged dry conditions and insect infestations. "We are pleased that Secretary Veneman has acted so quickly in extending aid to Utah farmers and ranchers," Walker " said. "The designation will help rnany operators remain in business, and that is good news for their families and our state." Venernan designated 20 coun-- . ties eligible for tiie designation i based on the level of damage caused by drought, insects, damaging wind, and heat. Nine other . oounties qualify for aid because they border those 20 counties. The damaging drought is not limited to just 20 of our coun--1 ' ties," Utah Commissioner of Agriculture and Food CaryG. ' Peterson said." , "Low or nonexistent reservoir levels can 6e seenlhrough- -' out the state, and I am happy to see all Utah fanners and ranchers will be eligible for some "X, form of relief," he added.
