And, as usual, they were wrong. They have missed so many times that they should all follow the example of the Literary Digest, which staked its future on a poll, lost, and folded up. True, the polls all predicted an Eisenhower win, but by mighty narrow margins. The landslide on Tuesday must have been as great a blow to them as Truman's win in 1948 when the polls all had predicted a Dewey victory. The reason we have an election is to find out the winner, so why have a "poll" ahead of time? To us, it is just a waste of time and money.
