The patrol made 1087 arrests during March as compared with 855 during February. Three hundred and three arrests were made for speeding, more than half of which were in Salt Lake County. The total was nearly 16 per cent greater than in any other previous year. The increase is attributed, in part to a desire to prevent the loss of preminent blood lines in countries engaged in or threatened by war. Potato silage may be made by chipping potatoes and mixing two percent of the total weight of ground corn. Silage made by running potatoes and dry corn fodder through silage cutter has almost as much value for fattening cattle as corn silage. When this silage is made, the o ratio should be four-fifth- s potatoes and one-fift- h corn. Yearling steers may be fed as much as 3 pounds of potatoes per head daily provided plenty of hay, protein concentrates, and bone meal are added. Potatoes have also been successfully used as a substitute for corn silage when fed to dairy cattle at a rate of 24 to 40 pounds daily per head. Milk production usually is about the same on alfalfa hay and corn silage as on alfalfa hay and potatoes, but in the later case more hay is torists were given tickets for running stop signs, as compared with 93 during February. The surprising feature of the report is the number of Utah motorists who continue to drive without a driver's license. The patrol issued 249 tickets to drivers who had failed to comply with the driver's license requirement, while 175 motorists were given tickets because the cars they were driving were not properly registered. During the month, the patrol issued 574 warning tickets as compared to 384 issued during February. With 35 traffic fatalities already this year, V. D. Hammond, chairman of the Road Commission, has issued an earnest appeal to all Utah motorists to use extreme caution in driving during the balance of the year, and also to be sure that the cars they drive are in first class mechanical condition. Mr. Hammond expressed the opinion that this is the only way that traffic fatalities can be held to a minimum. lond-lea.-- o , n - pl; ined.
