Crop insurance adjusters have gun inspection (f acreages in- ured under the 1941 Federal rop Insurance program where irmers have reported complete ': nearly complete loss of their op, according to Frank Lund- kog, member of the Salt Lake )unty AAA committee. Farmers whose insured wheat ;elds have been damaged so as i) make it aj)pear desirable to iake other use of the land or Top, should notify the county ommittee immediately if they ave not already done so, Mr. 9 h i 3 Lundskog said. If the inspection shows that a total or substanially total loss has been .sustained on all the planted acres on the farm, the farmer will be indemnified promptly after approval by the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation of his "statement in proof of loss." If the loss does not appear to be severe enough to justify putting the land to some other use, final adjustment will be made at harvest time, when the actual yield can be determined. In some instances where only a portion of the acreage on the farm is a complete loss, the grower may have the loss on the damaged portion appraised in order to put it to some other use. B. Thompson. The former Murray students winning the honor, and cards of congratulation from the university were: Alice Snarr, George Michael McMillan, Calvin McMillan, Charles R. Hansen, and Margaret Martin. Graduates of Granite high outnumbered students from other outlying districts in the number of enrollees placed on the 2.5 honor list. Thirteen Granitians won letters of congratulations for their winter scholarship. They are: Marjorie Nelson, Thomas M. Rees, Wendell Paxton, Donna Miller, Reed Merrill, Irving Jaclyn McAllister, Grant Naomi Johns, Harriet Liddle, Hinckley, Robert Carlson, Grayce Anderson, and Irene Brinton. Also among the honor students were five graduates of Jordan high: Dale Sorenson, Vester Don Orton, Irene and Loretta Brown. .... r Murray PARTS and EXCHANGES Ras-musse- 1 not a very expert piano player, this tat finds its musical tastes gratified by walking on the keys. Jensen, chairman of the Salt Lake county AAA committee, in pointing out that large supplies of wheat in the United States are expected to make marketing quotas necessary for handling the 1941 crop. Exports have furnished an outlet for much of the wheat produced above domestic needs, he said, but since the outbreak of the present war, wheat exports have been almost entirely cut off by blockade. As a result, wheat has piled up in this country until the total supply for the 1941-4- 2 marketing year is expected to be nearly one and a quarter bilThis is almost lion bushels. enough wheat to meet this country's wheat needs for two years. Another factor that contributed to large wheat supplies is that the average person in the United States eats less wheat than formerly. In 1920 the consumption of wheat averaged 4.4 bushels per person, while in 1930 it was 4.1 and only 3.7 bushels per person in 1939. Although the population has increased, the lower consumption per person has prevented any appreciable increase of the total consumption of wheat, pointed out Mr. Jensen. The fact that the domestic market is not able to absorb the wheat grown in this country, coupled with the sharp curtailment of exports, are factors for wheat growers ot study carefully before the marketing quota referendum on May 31, he advised. H club experience whets the mental appetite of boys and girls exposed to club training. The samples of "learning by doing" that they get in voluntary club work drive them on to want more of the same in the form of college training. This is indicated by a current survey of former club members enrolled this year in agriculture and home economics at state colleges of agriculture. Of nearly 36.250 students in these two courses in 36 states and Puerto Rico, nearly 11,275, or 31 per cent, were former club members, says R. A. Turner, of the extensions service. Many of these students made contact with an agricultural college through activities. The Illinois College of Agriculture is first, with 50 per cent of the agricultural and home economics students being former club members; Nebraska is second, with 4!) per cent; and Indiana third, with 47 per cent. Awarding of scholarships to club members has encouraged attendance at agricultural colleges, Mr. Turner believes. Members of clubs also take courses other than in agriculture and home economics and enter colleges other than the "land grant" group. en-ter- ed The greatest improvement in record reproduction since the invention of the phonograph . . . tlic Philco Photo-Electri- c Reproduces records through the reflections of fluating jewel on a photoelectric cell. This decrease is accounted for by the loss in the European markets, plus the fact that exports of a year ago were somewhat inflated, due to heavy stocking-u- p prior to import restrictions in the United Kingdom and Canada and to building up of food reserves in r.eutral Europe. Increaso in Small Farms The United States Census Bureau reports that there has been a large increase in the number of farms under ten acres during the last decade. Between 1930 and farms of under 10 acres increased 41 per cent, the greatest increases bvir.g in the industrial and mining areas where farm living can be combined with omploytnet.
