Show Right price guesses win Hill employee car yard barbecue, she found herself onstage with host Bob liarker. "I could hardly catch my breath!" When the doors swept back to reveal the next prize up for a shiny red Pontiac Grand Am. "My son bid, she gasped needs a new car!" she told Barker. She had to earn it. Her first challenge was the game, familiar to all "lYiee is Right" aficionados. Shown various appliances and price tags, she had to guess whether the cost was true or false. Each correct answer won her that prize and a chance to guess the price i f the car. She won an espresso disc maker, a knife sharpener, a waterproof player for the shower, and, more iniKrtanily, three chances at the car. Presented with five price tags, she made her first guess. Wrong. The crowd shrieked advice, and Schindel looked anxiously to her mother in the audience. ( )n the second guess, Schindel got it. As Barker pulled away the tag to reveal the "YES!" hidden behind it, she burst into happy tears. "I couldn't believe it!" The car positioned her as one of the biggest winners of the showcase at day and made her eligible to win the grand-prizthe end of the program. She didn't win the showcase but was pleased all the same with her "haul." The show itself aired a couple of weeks after the taping, and Schindel had the pleasure of watching herself win the car. The vehicle was delivered to her son's home in Arizona just this week. All that remains to be settled is the paperwork title and taxes. "He photos of the car to me," Schindel says, and she's expecting him to visit March one day soon so she can take a spin. "He owes me that!" As exciting as the experience was, however, Schindel says, "Never again! Too tense!" The price was right, but now that the excitement has died down, she's back to the important business at hand fighting the war on terrorism with the 4th Air Force logistics Division. by Maj. "trut-or-false?- Schindel recently attended a taping of the television game show "The Price is Right" in Los Angeles, a field trip from the base. And she wore her Class "A" blues. "It was my mother's idea," she says. A wise choice the Air Force blue stood out from the crowd. The show's producers chose her as a contestant and she wound up a big winner, with a new Pontiac and other prizes as a reward for her smart shop- radio-compa- ping. Photo by Maj. Richard Sater Pamela Schindel watches a video tape of "The Price is Right" episode where she won a new car. Schindel, an employee of the Ogden ALC Space and C3I Systems Directorate, is a reservist on duty at March ARB, Calif. Schindel, whose home is Clinton, Utah, is assigned to 4th Air Force logistics at March ARB, where she's serving a yearlong mobilization in support of the war on terrorism. On the civilian side, she's an item manager for the Ogden ALC's Space and C3I Systems Directorate Space Systems Support Division. Billeted on base, she's always on the lookout for things to do on her days off. She found out about the bus trip to the game show, a regular attraction offered by the base morale, wellness and readiness center. "My mother persuaded me to get tickets," Schindel says. En route to Los Angeles with a busload of other reservists and their guests from the base, Schindel wasn't expecting anything more than a pleasant diversion. After the quick preliminary interview offered to all prospective contestants, she was skeptical of her chances. But "a guy told me 'you're going to get picked!'" she says. "It turns out that they like people in uniform, they like people from out of town, and they like blondes." Schindel qualified on all three counts. When announcer Burton Richardson called her name, "I was in total shock," she admits.
