If you find one of these birds and it is dead or looks very ill it may be unable to fly or appear to be wobbling or staggering call the local health department, mosquito abatement district or the Office of Epidemiology. Some of these birds may be collected for testing. Information to know when reporting a dead bird includes type of bird or a description of its coloring and size; where the bird was found and when; how long the bird has been dead; and is there more than one bird and could they have been poisoned. Report dead birds to the Wildlife Resources office at www.wildlife.utah.govaboutcontact.jsp. I )ispose of dead birds by placing them in a double-plasti- c bag, sealing it or tying it, then throwing it in an outside trash container. Avoid touching the bird directly wear rubber gloves or protect your hands with plastic bags. Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water afterward. Products containing DEET have been occasionally associated with health problems including skin reactions such as rash, swelling and itching; eye irritation; and, less frequently, slurred speech, confusion and seizures. Frequent application or saturation may not be necessary. Use DEET as needed for your situation. Recommended precautions for using repellents containing DEET are: Store out of the reach of children and read all instructions on the label before applying. Don't allow children to apply DEET themselves. Don't apply DEET directly to children. Apply to your own hands and then put it on the child. When applying DEET, avoid the child's face and hands. Avoid prolonged and excessive DEET use. Use sparingly to cover exposed skin only. There is no need to treat unexposed skin. Don't app!y repellents in enclosed areas. Don't apply directly on your face, especially near the eyes, nose or mouth. Don't use on skin that is damaged by sunburn, cuts, bruises or skin conditions. DEET may be applied to clothing, but may damage some synthetic fabrics and plastics. Wash treated skin and clothing after returning indoors. If you think you or a child is having an adverse reaction to a repellent containing DEET, wash the treated area immediately and contact a health care provider or poison control center. Using DEET is only one way to reduce the risk of mosquito bites. The State Health Department also encour- ages other precautions, such as wearing long pants and shirts in areas with high mosquito activeliminate items on your property in which ity. Also, can water collect and serve as a mosquito standing breeding ground. long-sleeve-d ATTENTION!!! DENTURE SUFFERERS!!!
