Show ACTION LINEEXT. 77000 f Why have we failed to fully implement 2Z the Integrated Organization Development changes? Most individual personnel changes have occurred. However, the Ogden Air Logistics Center institutional systems haven't been changed. Our supply, budget and man-hou- r accounting systems have not yet been reorganized by IOD. VVe are verbally using both old and new office symbols, but our computers only recognize the old ones. Continuing to operate with two sets of system designators is confusing and costing us a lot of lost time, communications, efficiency and distribution. When can we expect the conversion to be complete? fl JrNL Implementing changes to existing systems and organizations is very complex and results initially in a costly learning curve. Some of the changes outlined in your inquiry are a part of this complex process. Every effort is being made to upgrade system tables (organization symbol changes) to help the user in the timely accomplishment of workload assignments. However, for systems scheduled to r be replaced within a period, such and workeffective be would cost not changes arounds may be required. Transition period initiatives have provided pere sonnel in all directorates a guide for old and new addresses with associated building numbers. Additionally, an addendum to the Hill AFB Directory was distributed in October 1990. The new telephone directories were completed on July 29, and were sent to the directorates Aug. 13 and 14. Although inconveniences have been experienced, the overall scope of the IOD changes are on target and I am confident they will have a positive impact in helping us to meet the dynamic needs of a scaled down budget and two-yea- cross-referenc- defense force. 11 ACTION LINE is your opportunity to make Hill AFB i better place to live, work and play. When you call Ext. 77000, or send on LOCDIS or OfficeVision to ID "ACTION," your comments will be recorded and staffed through the agency responsible for action. Tlease give your supervisor and chain of command the opportunity to work with you in answering questions and solving problems before calling ACTION LINE. This will help me better serve your interests through ACTION This area has been temporarily closed for the installation of new chemical tanks on the west side of Bldg. 505. When the project is completed the lot will be reopened. When parking is closed, it is the natural tendency for folks who normally park in the area to find a parking place in any location that is not too much farther from their original preferred area of parking. Since the lot closure was going to be temporary, lasting until November, the division chief felt tickets would not be appropriate unless extreme parking violations had occurred. The monitoring of the handicapped stalls will be increased and flagrant violations will be ticketed. When normal parking is allowed to resume, all rules will once again be enforced. r 4 p v fi s y Sorvico charge added to tickets LINE. Gn. Maj. Ogden Thompion Jr. ALC I recently tried to secure the Hill AFB Honor Guard for a veteran's funeral and was informed the guard only participates in services for Air Force veterans. All veterans are entitled to burial rights, which include an honor guard, regardless of the branch of service they served. I respectfully request that this policy be reconsidered so that the major military installation within Utah's borders can again care for all veterans whether they be Army, Navy, Air Force or Marine. The Hill Honor Guard is a very active and 4 professional participant in community activities and is closely regulated to ensure compliance with strict Air Force guidelines. The objective of the program is to provide a highly professional honor guard to represent the finest traditions of the Air Force. Air Force military funeral honors are provided for active duty members, recipients of the Medal of Honor, Air Force retirees, former members of the Air Force Air Corps, and Women's Air Forces Service pilots whose past services were honorable. There are also numerous other functions not related to mortuary affairs that keep our honor guard active both on and off base. The most important thing to remember is that all honor guard requests for support are based on preparation time, location and availability of team members. You were instructed to contact the Army concerning your honors request for the deceased and I hope you met with success. yj well-traine- d, Flat tops aro stylish haircut now consid-fej- f Why is the flat top ered a style cut? I've been getting flat tops for a little over three years and it's always been the price of a normal cut. Why are they now charging style cut prices for a flat top cut when it's been a military cut for decades? jf The popularity of the flat top has created structure for this tvrje of haircut. Contracts require periodic price surveys in the local community and the average price is determined with a 30 percent savings passed on to the customer at the base exchange barber as regular shop. Flat tops take twice as long haircuts and considering the preciseness reis not unquired, a modest price difference reasonable based on the survey. I contacted the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Division Ticket Office to order tickets for the Brigham Young University-Ai- r Force Academy football game. I paid $12 for the ticket, but later noticed the price printed on the ticket was $10. Subsequently, I found they were charging a $2 service fee for these tickets. Instead of it being a discount ticket, it ended up costing more than the original price. I found out later I could have called the Marriott Center and ordered my tickets directly from them for $10. If the ticket office is going to be adding a service charge, why don't they let the public know they are paying a service charge and that there is an option to purchase them at the regular price and how it can be done? jJ DoU W. commander Kudos I have a kudos for the people who work in the base pharmacy. I would like to highly commend these individuals for the way they handle the pharmacy refill call-i- program. I would also like to highly recommend to all personnel that they use this procedure because it certainly reduces the time in going out there and picking up prescriptions. Please give my thanks and the gratitude of my family to the people in the pharmacy. We appreciate the positive feedback. The hospital is continually looking for areas where they can make improvements in the timeliness of their services. Their goal is to as make medical care at Hill as hassle-fre- e possible, and the pharmacy refill service is one such improvement. For those who have A not yet tried it, you simply call Sorecorder will take your name, sponsor's cial Security number, and prescription numbers for your refillable prescriptions. If you call in before 4 p.m., the prescriptions will generally be available when the pharmacy opens the next morning. Just pick them up within the next three days, or if something comes up, give a call and they will hold them for you longer. For your routine prescriptions, this is a real time saver. n 825-475- 1. Policy on use of honor guard fyj; Mltop Times I Problems with IOD jffk .Oct. 18, 1991 We would like to make you aware of the very high quality and professionalism of Maj. Cary Wellington's 2849th Air Base Group Civil Engineering Squadron, especial- ly TSgt. Tyrone Sanders, SSgt. Rodney Madison and Sgt. Scott Paul from the Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning Team. For years our building has had numerous air conditioning problems to the point where a new air conditioning unit was installed. Even then the new unit didn't correct the problem until the three sergeants figured out that the water was piped in backwards in 1940. They repiped the water correctly and the new unit is now functioning very well. Thanks to the ability of these three sergeants we have an excellent air conditioning system. We feel a letter of commendation or some type of recognition is in order. Again, our thanks and appreciation to these three sergeants and Major Wellington's fine organization. Thank you for your kind comments. The HVAC Team is an innovation which has facilitated Total Quality Management in the mechanical systems on base. Along with the rest of the squadron, they are dedicated to providing first class facilities for the people who live, work, and play on Hill AFB. I join you in saluting the men and women of the 2849th Civil Engineering Squadron. Why not ticket parking violators? of Park-(kj- f sfSS Why do they have the north end Being Lot 50 by Bldg. 507 roped off? cause it is ropeel off, people are parking illegally in handicapped stalls and outside the designated parking stalls. It is creating a safety hazard, but they don't seem to be issuing any. tickets. Why aren't they ticketing violators? I The Brigham Young University vs. Air A Force Academy football game tickets were purchased through the Air Force Academy Athletic Association ticket office and a handling fee of $2 was charged to cover expenses. This is the first year Hill AFB was able to obtain bulk ticks were used in makets and numerous ing preliminary arrangements. Hopefully, in the future, we can reduce the cost of academy games. For your information, the ticket office did not receive a discount on the tickets and the Marriott Center ticket office also charges a $2 handling fee. Ticket and Tour employees do try to explain why the ticket does not always reflect the same price the customer pays. In your case, they goofed and apologize for any misunderstanding it may have caused you. man-hour- Award was no reward I received a cash award but when it ap-pear- ed on my paycheck the amount was a lower percentage than when I signed for it. Is management allowed to change the percentage after you have signed the form? In some instances it may be necessary for a manager such as the award approving official to change the amount of an award. An example would be if proposed awards exceed funds allowed to the organization. If a change is made, an explanation would normally be given to the employee. I would suggest you consult with your supervisor on the reason for the change to your award. Jl1 Bug is a nuisance sprayer and I live in base my family and tyX I were awakened from our sleep when the bug sprayer came by. We received no notification regarding the spray and our animals were outside and the spray came through our swamp cooler. This could cause a problem for people with asthma. Why weren't we notified prior to the spraying so we could shut off our coolers and get our animals in? housing I can understand how the odor of the in- secticide might cause alarm, but routine fogging for mosquitoes in the housing areas is not dangerous and does not necessitate individual notification to residents. There was, however, an article published in the Hilltop Times. In addition, a note was sent to each directorate to be disseminated to affected personnel advising parents not to allow their children to follow the vehicle during the fogging procedure. Treatments in the housing area are scheduled to continue each Tuesday and Thursday until the first frost. If additional information is needed, please contact the entomology staff at Ext. 74427. |
