Better Business Bureaus across the country have had complaints about credit card scams from consumers hoping to obtain credit cards, despite a bad credit record, or current card holders hoping to get a new credit card with a lower annual percentage rate. One type of credit card offer advertises a "secured" card or low interest card. Consumers who respond by calling such numbers should realize, first, they will be charged for the call (per call, or per minute), and second, that the offer isn't coming from a bank, but from a third-partmarketer who must be registered with a bank. Since the bank's name must appear somewhere in the ad or during the commercial, consumers should contact the 900-numb- er 900-numb- er card-issuin- g y bank directly, thereby avoiding the charge. To qualify for a secured card a consumer must open a special savings ac 900-numb- er credit card scams 900-numb- er count as collateral for the credit card. In return, he or she will receive a credit line equal to all or part of this account. The account will be "frozen." meaning the consumer will not be able to draw from it as long as he or she has the credit card.
