Show by Brent Olson packed house and thunderous applause indicate that there are certainly a lot of people out there that love it you may be one of the voiceovers that accomdance were annoying the panied and overdone. They distracted attention away from the sheer beauty of the dances, adding an unnecessary pseudohistory element. That stated, the performance as a whole was outstanding. Opening with the spotlight on a lone mourning piper, the stage was quickly flooded with stompdancers. The ing, pounding rhythms emanating from their shoes were almost hypnotic in their precision. Indeed, the shoes were so loud that it almost felt as if they had been miked. Gyrating from pattern to pattern, form to form, the dancers kept the audience's eyes darting from scene to scene. Following the first dance, the Riverdance Singers took the stage. In a pure a cappella style they sang of love and longing numerous times throughout the evening. At times, the soloists wavered, turning reedy and dry, but when singing in cohort, their mixture of voices was always and melodious, tickling the ear. Flamenco dancer Nuria Brisa took the stage,in"Firedance." Brisa's two dances were highlighted by her tight lines, sensual hands and rapid twirls of her dress. The first act ended with the ubiquitous "Riverdance" song. Its driven, captivating melody and of energy proved a steady build-ufor vehicle both the soloist great dancers and the Riverdance Irish Dance Troupe as a whole. Soloist Michael Patrick Galsession lagher's with the Riverdance Drummers during "Riverdance" was especially charming. Time after time, Gallagher would whirl around the room before coming to a perfect stop, pointing at drummers with the same expression, daring them to top him. While they never did, their pulsating poundings provided a pungent aroma to Gallagher's dance. of Ironically, the the evening was only half Irish dance. , "Trading Taps" featured Gallagher and two other Irish dancers in a face-of- f Aaron with Tolson, Ronald "Cadet" Bastine and Rogelio Douglas. Gallagher saved his best steps for "Taps" and the three matched him step for step. The tap artists of Irish dance was absolutely hilarioustightly puckered lips, arms ramrod straight with legs flying every which way. During the course of the evening, only one or two dancers made any noticeable mistakes, truly remarkable for a production this size, with so many dancers moving together at once. Indeed, the less enjoyable parts of the evening were not the responsibility of the dancers at all. Kingsbury Hall itself was the worst thing about the production. While the sightlines at Kingsbury allow a clear view of the dancer's from the waist up, I would be surprised if one seat in so gave a clear view of the dancers' feet, where the most exciting action is taking place. Trie audience members twisted their heads every . which way to try and get a clear ' view. 4 if' ' 'AO fct : v.: 1 " g Between full-ca- st dances, many soloists tried their turn on the dance floor.
