MEN'S TENNIS: The men's tennis team managed to upset a few ranked teams, most notably despite being Cal-Berkel- ey injury-plague- d much of the season. Seniors Jeff Wichers and Graeme Cox led the way for the team in doubles while Cox posted the best singles record with a 16-- 8 mark. Jay Quimby was the team's most consistent player in the fall and Chris Reilly came off of an early season injury to guide the team in the spring. Freshmen Magnus Hjalmarson and Etienne Hubert contributed to several big Utes wins, including an upset of BYU and talented Sjur Paulsen should compete in the top half of the Utes lineup next year. MEN'S SWIMMING: For the seventh year in a row, the men's swim team captured the Western Athletic Conference title. The team was led by Jim Giottonini who was named the male swimmer of the year. Giottonini will represent the U. and the United States at the World University Games in July. The senior from Stockton, Calif., has the nation's second fastest time in the d backstroke. For the team's efforts head coach Jim Wilson was named coach of the year. WOMEN'S SWIMMING: Still in the building stages, the Lady Utes 100-yar- 200-yar- University Games. GOLF: Ron Branca 's golf team had an year but postscores some ed during the fall good and spring seasons. One member of the team, junior Greg Slack, qualified for the NCAA West Regional and will be the Utes' top golfer next year. TRACK AND FIELD: Head coach Mike Jones savored the individual success of his teams this season. Picking up winners division semifinal wins were Fubar and Noonan. Fubar rolled past the Infrared Sox 1 and Noonan halted P. B. O. C. 7-- 6-- 4. Fubar claimed top honors in the winners finals with a 13-- win over 3 Noonan. Losers bracket third round action saw the Phi Delts prevail in the losers final with a humongous forfeit win over Noonan. For the title, it came down to Fubar and the Phi Delts and Fubar prevailed in a 19-1- slugfest. 6 Man's Rec Softball It was the Emboli bunch claiming top honors in the tournament with wins over Sigma Nu, the NADS, Knishes and Sig Eps. The Knishes edged the Commp.
