Thompson has received a special award in 1988 for his contributions to golf, and the Gold Club Award, the Utah Golf Rocky Association's highest honor. He worked as club pro at several including clubs, Timpanogos from 1949 to 1951 and Tri City Golf Course from its inception. He retired in 1986. He was inducted in the Utah Golf Hall of Fame in 1998.
