Show Fire flares up , When Steve Bushman spotted his trouble light left turned on where his four year old had been playing with it on the basement family room sofa, he clicked it off and didn't think any more about it. Later Monday evening, thick black smoke billowed up through the home's air vents, driving the family into the chill of the snowy night. , Firemen suspect heat from the light had started a fire deep in the foam cushions of the couch which smoldered until it became a blaze that consumed the Bushman's family room and caused an estimated $30,000 of fire and smoke damage to their Lehi home at 1895 N. 500 West. The heat from the fire was so hot it melted glass in the basement family room window. Members of the family fled the house so quickly some found themselves outside in the snow without shoes or coats. Steve's wife Jean was transported to the American Fork Hospital for. medical care. She was later released. Through Monday night and into Tuesday morning, the fire department received two more calls to the Bushman home as flames flared again, the first at already tragic time ' ....,';- for Bushmans possible days. In the early hours of the same day, Jean had been with her father as he quietly Now, slipped from mortality. she also faced the loss of her home. Disaster recovery experts estimate it will take 90 days to complete the clean up and restoration of the family room. They have a goal, however, to have the Bushmans back in the upstairs living section of the home by Christmas. Jean is just wondering how shea'as going to get a dress to wear to her father's funeral. Everything in the house that wasn't burned, is covered with a thick, black layer of smoke. As Steve and Jean met with the recovery team Tuesday morning, friends and neighbors from the ward stopped by to offer support and help. One little friend brought a new Barbie doll to give their daughter. Jean's eyes filled with tears as she told the little one how much her daughter would appreciate the gift. According to Fire Marshall Dale Ekins, the fire crew had checked the area carefully with a heat detector gun before they left the home Monday night and everything appeared cool. He suspects a stray spark from the earlier fire imbedded itself in the cushions of another family room couch and with breezes coming through the broken window, fanned into the second fire. His suspicion was confirmed by the state fire inspector. Anytime something like this happens, it is a tragedy for the family. Eagle Mountain gives notice of intention to form Special Improvement District NOTICE OF INTENTION PUBLIC NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on the 27th day of October, 1998, the Town Council of Eagle Utah County, Mountain, Utah (the "Town"), adopted a resolution declaring its intention to create a special district to be improvement known as Eagle Mountain, Utah Special Improvement District No. 98-- 2 (Cedar Pass) (the "District"). One year, a girl with very low scores was in his class. He said she just couldn't seem to answer anything right. But she was determined to succeed so she tried over and over. In the end, she made the top five to represent the school in the Knowledge Bowl, and continstuued on to be a straight-dent in the secondary schools. Another student took the AP Science class in high school and ended up being the teacher's aide helping other students because she already knew everything the class taught. She had gleaned the information from her studies preparatory for the Bowl when she was in sixth grade. In many ways, Cox will be taking his classroom with him as he serves in politics. One of the concerns he has is the impact the state's high growth rates have on public schools. He claims our education is the best in the entire world, in spite of what detractors say, and he wants to make sure the schools in Utah stay that way. He is also concerned about the impact growth has on other areas and the need to make sure Utah stays an enjoyable place to live, targeting adequate roads, open spaces, , parks, etc., as important issues. There are two guiding principles Cox says he has learned over the years. The first is to let other people have their freedom of belief. Tied with that is being a little bit patient and a little understanding of others. His second advice is to try to be absolutely dependable so people can depend on you to fill your job well in whatever you do, whether at work, in the churches, schools, Scouts, PTA, or community. "Sometimes I think we have a problem of dependability," said Cox. "The more we can make that an absolutely important thing in our lives, the better our schools and communities will be." One thing is for certain: Cox practices what he preaches. He feels that there are no big answers in our government. The important thing, he says, is to improve ourselves and help others become the best they can be. Believing that good values are what America is all about, Cox is excited about the opportunity he now has to represent the citizens of our community. He feels that the American "System", itself, is a wonderful system. If there is a problem, it is not the system that is at fault, but rather individuals. Cox says he is very impressed with the people in the legislature. He is confident that with many minds, mistakes will be avoided and the best laws and rulings will take place. He looks forward to being part of that process.
