To help autumn travelers find the best colors this season, two hotlines are available for their use. The US Forest Service will be implementing a "fall color hotline", beginning this week, to inform listeners of the best color viewing opportunities across the country. Loyal Clark, from the Uinta National Forest, reports that this hotline will be updated weekly, with Utah's fall color highlights in each report. Additional information, regarding fall colors, will be available at all Ranger District Stations, as colors progress. Calvin Bey, director of the Forest Service's Forest Management Research Programs, commented, "In the western United States, the aspen will begin their annual color display in toll-fre- e when the foothills become a patchwork of deep yellows and greens." He added, "While color changes are primarily brought on by the increasing hours of darkness, that accompany the fall season, the timing and length of the fall color season is also affected by weather. Warm sunny fall days with cool nights should produce the most bril liant colors." The vice updates can US Forest Serbe obtained by calling Following a very informative Summer Wildflower Hotline, Red Butte Garden will also be providing a Fall Color Hotline, updated regularly to help enthusiasts find nature's best ' fall fireworks. In general, the forecast indicates that colors will be spectacular this season, due to the moist conditions that persisted throughout the summer. Viewing opportunities will depend on weather conditions including cooling temperatures and when snow blankets the high country. Maples are currently turning to brilliant crimson and orange colors, but golden aspens should be worth viewing within the next few weeks. Viewing opportunities will continue through late October, as the red rock country of southern Utah turns to gold, with cottonwoods displaying - their finest. Serviceberries, Chokecher-ries- , and Blue Elderberries should still be available in areas above 8,000 feet. Berry harvesters are cautioned that Red Elderberries can cause stomach cramps in some people. Sponsored by The Utah Native Plant Society, Red Butte Garden's Wildflower and Fall Color Hotline can be reached by calling (801) World War II. Guido married Nan Rae Healey on Nov. 10, 1950. Permits will allow for the cutting of Sub Alpine Fir trees under 15 feet, identified by the flat, soft needles which extend upwards on each branch. Sub Alpine Fir trees have a relatively smooth, silver-grebark and branch ends can be gently grabbed without a sharp jabbing to the bare hand, unlike the Englemann Spruce. Englemann Spruce trees, not legal to cut, have sharp and square needles, which will roll in your fingers like a round tooth pick. Sub Alpine Fir trees generally keep their needles longer than the spruce trees. Ann, my husband and I have a company that specializes in cleaning dryer vents, so I am more than familiar with the dangers. Clothes dryers start more residential fires than any other appliance. The Consumer Products Safety Commission estimates that there are over 24,000 dryer fires each year in the United States, causing over $96 million in property damages. Lack of vent maintenance is the leading cause of dryer fires, and lint, which is a hidden fire hazard, is the material most likely to ignite. Even a cleaned lint screen traps only 75 percent of the lint. When lint builds up in dryer vents, the dryer motor has to labor harder and can overheat, igniting the lint. It isn't just clothes-drye- r vent hoses that need to be n checked, Ann. Clogged disconcompartments, nected or ripped dryer-vehoses, smashed hoses behind the clothes dryer, bird nests in dryer vents, poor dryer-vedesign, screens placed over the exhaust point, use of white plastic vent hoses instead of aluminum foil ones, building defects, wrong exhaust hoods Clark, Public Loyal tions Administrator from the Uinta National Forest, reports that this popular activity is available on the Heber Ranger District for the first 1500 individuals, beginning Nov. 6.
