Supt. Steven C. Baugh said Baugh explained criteria for negotiations are moving forward determining a recommendation to obtain property in the north to bring to the board including is the plan cost effective and is it conducive to sound education. He said the district doesn't always select the low bid since it needs to be an educationally sound and cost effective building. Baugh reviewed Sandstrom's proposals, noting it included a 1.65 percent architectural fee. Valentiner Crane's proposal included a 5 percent fee, and additional repeat fees. An underage, unlicensed driver, attempting to back out of his driveway, pushed the gas pedal instead of the brake and hit a car that was parked by the side of the road, causing $500 damage to his parents' vehicle and $900 damage to the vehicle owned by a man from Mona. After hitting the car, the youth put the car in drive, then lost control again, going through the garage and hitting an outbuilding, causing an additional $5,000 in damages. A Pleasant Grove man was booked into the Utah County Jail for expired registration. Well, not just expired registration, but an expired driver's license and expired insurance. Oh yeah, did we mention the outstanding warrant for driving on suspension? Then there was the cement truck driver from Pleasant Grove who had a $110 warrant from his own community, as well as a $5,000 felony warrant from Salt Lake City. Officers called the man's employment to retrieve the cement truck he was driving at the time. A Lehi man, stopped for expired registration, was found to be driving an unsafe vehicle, i.e., his windshield was cracked, and possibly operating a methamphetamines lab, according to items discovered during the routine search prior to impounding of the vehicle. Clocking a vehicle traveling 43 mph in a 30 mph zone, an officer became very concerned when he saw, in his rear-viemirror, the vehicle start drifting off the side of the road toward a parked car. He turned his own car around and followed the vehicle, watching it weave several more times. Stopping the vehicle, he could smell an odor of alcohol when he approached the driver; he asked the woman to perform field sobriety and breath tests, after which he determined that the woman was too impaired to drive. The woman was released to the custody of a responsible friend, while the vehicle and the canine passenger were both impounded. A vehicle taken from a Lehi residence was found the following morning about two blocks away from its regular home, minus nearly $400 in audio equipment and compact discs, and with some minor damage to the front end; a second car was also found in a different location. The victim told police that they always leave the keys in the vehicles so the cars can be moved easily. They were. 3-- Developers Continued from front page gate should be open," asserted Mellor. Comer and Mellor were the two dissenting votes, the latter stating his vote related to the gate and the former citing the gate "and other issues." R-l-- Cedar A motion by Councilmember Robert Fox led to the unanimous approval of a request by Woodside Homes to have 67.23 acres of property annexed between 9600 North (1500 North city address) and 9850 North, and 9600 West to 10000 West. Mayor Ken Greenwood expressed concerns about the developers plans to include sewer pumping in the development. "I don't want to have the citizens bear the responsibility for something like that," said Greenwood, asking if there would be a way to create a surcharge for developments that require sewer pumping. "If you're asking me if I like pumping stations, absolutely not," said City Engineer Lorin Powell. "If you're asking if we have to use them, yes, there are occasions when we have to. Sewer concerns were also raised by residents and potential residents of 2600 N. Center St., where Fred and Chris Finlinson said they would like to construct one home. The honor of putting in 800 feet of sewer wasn't something we were planning on," said Fred, suggesting that if all of the nearby property owners shared in the cost it would be more equitable for everyone. "I would love to have you as a neighbor," said Dennis Wilberg, "but I don't want to subsidize your sewer." Wilberg said a contractor had quoted him a price of $10,000 for connecting his corner home up to the existing city sewer facilities. Greenwood suggested that the Finlinsons contact property owners in the area to determine the level of support for a potential sewer connection project. w Fort Continued from front page process of receiving emergency medical technician (EMT) training through UVSC, with four more to start training with Lehi Ambulance the Department next fall. w In recent years, the department has also obtained more extensive communications equipment, with 17 pagers available to alert the majority of crew members; handheld radios cover the entire Cedar Valley. "My mother worried while I was there." Morrie served on the Lehi City Council for 10 years under Mayors Calvin Swenson and Harold Westring, then took on a term as mayor himself. During those 14 years, he said, the administration made substantial improvements in the sewer system, the water system and the streets. "While I was mayor," he said, "we made a lot of improvements on culinary water. We did a lot of work in Alpine Canyon." He recalled how citizens criticized his administration when a developer wanted to build on the north bench area and suggested that the bench area use the Alpine water while the town dig wells for community use. - "Some people thought we were crazy for not jumping on that one," he said. "We basically found out that people are hard to satisfy. I'd hate to be mayor now."
