The local newspaper ran a story on him and WSPA, a new radio station in the area, broadcast from the base of the tree and featured Carl Gosset and His Troubadours, a group Reid's father also performed with. Reid's local Baptist children's group would come to the tree each Wednesday to hold Sunbeam class so he could continue to participate with them. From the tree, he would join in singing hymns and hearing the Sunday School lesson. What makes the story even more unusual is that Reid did not have the luxury of a solid, covered tree house, only a sack strung between two limbs as a hammock. When he finally came down from the tree at the end of the summer, he found that he had lost his equilibrium and could not stand, but he had honed his tree swinging skills during that time. To mark the occasion, he went on stage (in a theater he later would manage) to tell of his exploits. Lights, camera and action. Reid went to work for Paramount Pictures as city manager of their theaters. After the war, he moved to Florida to run drive in theaters. "We wanted to go someplace where it wasn't so busy" he said. With the couple's two sons now living in Utah, they decided to look around Utah Valley for a suitable location for their retirement. After looking at homes in various locations, they were taken by a log home fronted by several pine trees, with fruit trees in the back yard. They were also taken by Lehi and have enjoyed the area ever since their move. "I love people," said Reid. "There are wonderful people around here." Ernie still enjoys golf, and plays regularly at the Alpine Country Club. He and Marilyn both enjoy gardening they have apples, plums, pears and and Marilyn has sucgrapes cessfully learned how to bottle their own produce.
