Show members to compete at state FFA Members of the Lehi High School chapter of the Future Farmers of America (FFA) returned with several awards from their recent competition. parliamentary team The took first place, having taken a written test and given a demonstration of the ten-minu- te Photo by Kindergarten students at Sego Lily their parents in which they stressed proper way to conduct a meeting. They will compete later this month on the state level. Team members include chairman Kasee Sweat, secretary Travis Gray and floor Lisa members Hadfield, Suzanne Hadfield, Denise Nelson, Nathan Bushman and Matt Walker. In the extemporaneous speaking contest, participants are given 30 minutes to prepare a speech on a drawn topic. Kasee Sweat won that event and will be representing the area on a state level. Abby Evans and Jamie Strickland competed in the creed speaking event, where participants quote the FFA creed and answer various questions about it. Evans finished third overall. Nathan Five students John Lewis, Bushman, Suzanne Hadfield, Matt Walker and Kasee Sweat applied for proficiency awards related to their agricultural projects. John Lewis and Suzanne Hadfield won in the beef production area and Matt Walker won in the food processing area; the three will compete on the state level. Mike Wilson, state FFA treasurer and a member of the Lehi FFA chapter, will be applying for the American FFA Degree, the highest honor an FFA member can achieve. Russ Daly Elementary recently presented a patriotic program for as part of freedom. self-estee- m Beal: 'Be content with what you have' Kristy "Be content with what you have," is the philosophy of Kristy Beal this week's Pioneer Profile. Kristy is the daughter of Scott and Kathy Beal of Lehi. Kristy is an energetic, fun, hardworking, outgoing, and caring senior at Lehi High. She currently serves as vice president of the Health Occupation Students of America club and is of the Peer member a Leadership team and National Honor Society. She helped to plan and coordinate Lehi High's drug free week and she participates in the Big BrotherBig Sister program for local elementary schools. Kristy has received the National English Merit Award and is listed in Who's Who Among American High School Students. She has also managed to maintain a 3.9 GPA while taking advanced placement classes in calculus and English Language and Composition. Kristy is an active member of the Lehi 21st Ward where she currently serves as ward organist. She has served in all her Young Women's class presidencies, received several class awards, and is currently working toward the Young Women's Recognition Award. In her free time, Kristy enjoys skiing, four wheeling, snowmobiling, hiking, hunting, traveling, bowling, and playing piano. She is also a homework center tutor at Lehi's public library.
