Dawn Harward puts a certain level of passion into everything she does. And recently, her passion has taken her onto a new plateau with her talent as a watercolor artist. This week, in conjunction with the Lehi Roundup celebration, Harward will hold an open house in her studio to acquaint residents and tourists with her works, many of which center on Southwest motifs. "You don't have to be an art expert to enjoy art," she said. As a youth, she was often found sewing costumes for roadshows in her LDS ward. She also sewed her own clothes. She said she was most likely inspired by her grandmother, who came out of the Depression era and recycled many items for additional use. "I think she's the one who got me going," said Harward. "I learned to look at things horizontally." From there, Harward started participating in fundraising events for organizations such as Muscular Dystrophy. She started by sending away for packets the groups would send to encourage different activities, such as dressing up as clowns and painting faces. Speaking of clowns, Harward took her organizational ability and combined that with her interest in politics, heading up a committee to raise funds for the (Arizona Gov. Evan) Mecham Recall Committee.
