The play takes place in the early 1930s, amidst a 768-700- 0. small town in Indiana called Zion. A young, mentally handicapped boy forms a friendship with a former preacher. Through patience and love, this preacher helps the boy overcome his deathly fear of water, and ultimately, helps the boy find release. It is a play guaranteed to make you laugh and to make you cry. Everyone will recognize the finely drawn characters because they are just like the people who walk the streets of Lehi. Community Education registration slated Registration for Community Education classes will be held Tuesday, March 18 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Lehi Junior High School, 700 E. Cedar Hollow Rd. Some of the new classes being offered are: Cast members from Sego Lily Elementary's upcoming production of "The Pirates of pose ior a scene, ine play will be held March 14, 17, 20 and 24 in the Lehi Junior High School auditorium, 700 E. Cedar Hollow Rd. Sego Lily to stage Pirates of Penzance Sego Lily PTA is sponsoring a of Gilbert and production Sullivan's The Pirates of Penzance. The play will be performed Friday, March 14; Monday, March 17; Thursday, March 20 and Monday, March 24 in the auditorium of Lehi Junior High School, 700 E. Cedar Hollow Rd.; curtain time is 7:15 p.m. Tickets are available at the door and are prices at $3 for children, $6 for adults, and $15 for families and groups of five. For more informa- tion on tickets, call Cliss Ercanbrack, tickets priced at $2 for children, $5 for adults and $10 for immediate family or groups of five will also be available at Sego Lily Elementary today (Wednesday) before school and after school until 3:30 p.m. Shiela and Lori Heindel have served as artistic directors for the play, with Lisa Michaels and Melanie Harding as music directors. Sharon Loiseau and Billie 768-177- Pre-sho- w Tuttle are the accompanists for the play, and choreography was done by Natalie Guymon and Mindy Young. Lead roles have been double cast, with Ben Tuttle and Cody Gaily in the role of the Major General, Stuart Harmon and Christopher Clark as the pirate king, and Dustin Harding and Jordon Simmons as Frederic, the pirate who is to be freed from his indentures. Jessica Peck and Emily Walker share the role of Ruth, Frederic's nurse, with Allison Henrie and Celeste Ethington as Maybell and Kira Carbine and Laura Pixton as Kate. John Keetch and BJ Deimler play the role of Samuel and Christopher Squires and Ben Walker are seen in the role of the police sergeant. Other pirates are played by Mark Barratt, Heath Pulham, Jarom Randall, Ricky Turner, David Trotter, Eli Baughman, Rob Clark, Susie Jex, Aaron Peterson, Devin Young and Justin Gertsch. The young ladies are played by Rosalynn Greaves, Susannah Larsen, Sharron Schaugaard, Ashley Sparks, Karen Struthers. Andrea Rebecca Struthers, Yarbrough, Laticia Neebling, Whitney Wood, Jennifer Anthony, Laura Demille, McKala Gaily, Brandy Grace, Brittney Grace, Cammi Park, Meghan Reneer, Jonelle Wilkey and Kimberlee Pixton. The roles of the police are played by David Clark, Michael Davis, Eileen Ferguson, Jared Flatt, Braden Gurney, Chelsie Haderlie, Brennan Harding, Colt Hausaver, Megan Holman, Danielle Johnson, Brittney Lizenby, Paul McDonald, Kristoffer Michael, Casey Peterson, Trevor Breanna Pulham, Shepherd, Elizabeth Walker, Heather Walker and Leisa Worlton. Mexico trip in planning tr - For the past two years, some elementary age students have participated in a unique service and culture trip to Mexico. The activity was started by Keith Grover, former intern at Meadow Elementary, who spearheaded the trip to Manuel Dublan, Mexico, to take school supplies and books, and to offer students in eighth through kindergarten grade an opportunity to spend time in their schools as a cultural v I Mi Students at Meadow Elementary will be instructed on several topics at the Health and Safety Fair on Monday, March 24. Meadow Elementary to host Health and Safety Fair The PTA and Title I programs at Meadow Elementary are sponsoring a Health and Safety Fair on Monday, March 24. The open house will be held at the school, 176 S. 500 West, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. All Meadow students and their parents are invited to attend. Several organizations will be available at the school to present information on health and safety issues. Students will also have a hands-oopportunity to see a fire truck, a patrol car, and a mock accident vehicle called the convincer, which n demonstrates the value of wearing a seat belt. Other booths and demonstrations will cover pool safety, train safety, electricity, nutrition, gun safety, substance abuse and immunizations. The school, with support from local merchants, is sponsoring a campaign for students throughout Lehi to promote bicycle safety. Young riders seen maintaining safe riding habits, such as wearing helmets, obeying traffic signals, riding on the proper side of the road, etc., will be issued "tickets" and a coupon redeemable at a local store. experience. The Juarez, Mexico school board is extending another invitation to interested students and their parents; an excursion is 1997. being planned for Oct. This trip is not being sponsored by Meadow Elementary; no funds are provided by the school, and the school is not responsible. Participants will leave Friday morning, Oct. 3, traveling as a group into Mexico. The students will attend school in Mexico Monday through Friday. Softball pitching Clinic Boys and girls could become a dominant force in the Alpine School Districts Softball games after taking this course. Training will be given in types of pitches, type of pitches for batters, and control and speed of pitches plus more. Tennis for 3rd & 4th graders and 5th & 6th graders Develop proper form and technique while having fun. Each participant is responsible for bring their own racket and a can of new tennis balls. Graduation are exercises planned for sixth grade students who have completed the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) Program in their schools. Lehi Elementary and Sego Lily Elementary students will hold a combined ceremony on Tuesday, March 18 at 7 p.m. at Lehi Junior High School, 700 E. Cedar Hollow Rd. Athletes of the week BYU-footba- Braden Cooper Braden Cooper, a junior at Lehi High School, is this week's out- Braden Cooper standing male student athlete. Braden is a guard on the Varsity Basketball Team. He has been playing for Lehi since he was a freshman where he started on the Varsity Team. He averages 14 points a game and has been an important asset to Lehi's two state Students must their wear D.A.R.E. Awards will be given to the winners of the essay contests from each school championships. Braden started playing basketball when he was five yrs old. He has played on city league teams and for the Amateur Athletics Union. His love of sports also includes football. He is the quarterback for the Lehi High School Varsity Football Team. He has been playing on the varsity football team since he was a freshman. Braden is also active on the Varsity Baseball team where he plays the and catcher. positions of first-bas- e In his spare time he enjoys hunting, camping, fishing, riding horses, and playing sports. In addition to being and outstanding athlete he is an outstanding student with a 3.85 GPA. His goals are to win another state championship in basketball and also win one in football. After graduation he hopes to obtain a college scholarship and continue his sports career on the collegiate level. Braden is the son of Gary and Carolyn Cooper. Brittney Allred basketball Senior player Brittney Allred is this week's female student athlete of the week. Brittney is an outstanding forward on Lehi High Schools girls' varsity basketball team.
