The officer initially stopped the car for faulty equipment, but later found that A Provo center m - i i i 'V the vehicle was not insured. Upon stopping the vehicle, the officer observed the passengers moving about the car; he later saw a case of beer that he thought the occupants may have tried to hide. Meanwhile, a second officer interviewed the two passengers and found that both had outstanding warrants from other departments. Both men were booked into the jail, one being taken by an American Fork officer, the other by a county sheriffs deputy. The investigating officer told the driver that he would be cited for expired registration, no insurance and open container violations. While preparing the vehicle to be impounded, another officer discovered a bag containing a green leafy substance; the first officer informed the driver that he would add possession of marijuana to the list of charges.
