Show Km I'i j'ss - Wednesday, Sept. 1, VM1 - ViW :i Ballet Continued from front page that she seriously study ballet. Jackie auditioned for the JJniversity of Utah ballet program and was accepted. The first year, she started at Level 3 and was promoted two levels, then two more. She graduated from high school with ballet scholarship to the University and was offered a contract with the ballet company shortly after that. ', "When I joined the company. I'd had my point shoes only a year and a half," Jackie confides. "I think I had a lot of guts and really supportive parents. "I worked very hard. I knew I had to make up for lost time." She never missed a class, even in blizzards she made it up to the University. She applauds her mother for herculian efforts. ' "She was a true supporter, so was my dad. And that's the thing I notice Utah Regional Ballet ito present 'Cinderella Utah artist. Tickets may be obtained at the Capitol Theatre Box Office at $10 demanding." Jackie is often asked now, as she teaches, if she regrets leaving the spotlight. "When I was dancing and performing, I thought it was the ultimate," she muses. "But it's 10 times more fulfilling to teach. Your own body has its limits. Working with 300 kids, you can have everything you want . I love it "The other thing I've found that I didn't know I had a gift to do is the choreography. I don't know where it comes from, it seems so natural to me. For a long time, I didn't realize it wasn't something everyone did. I really enjoy that. "My only complaint might be I'm down - is that I don't get to take the classes. I demonstrate a little bit but I don't really get to dance." To keep fit and to chase the occasional doldrums away, she walks five miles a day. Jackie is managing a heavy load. "If I could just do the company. It would be a big job," and she insists on teaching each of the classes she takes on - at least part of the time. "I want to know each dancer. I try to get close to each one. I really love them and I think they feel that. A. child will do anything for you if they love you, ' ' she points out "I've had to be really strict too. I mean what I say. The kids watch me stick to what I promise." Classes run each day, except Sunday, from 2:15 in the afternoon until 10 p.m. Plus, Jackie comes in a couple of hours each morning to handle and answer phones correspondence, details for shows and the business responsibilities. She has a husband ("I'm lucky to have a real supportive husband,") Joe, and four children: two boys and two girls. Her eldest, Heather, just tried out and made it into the company. Jackie didn't push that. She wanted Heather to honestly make her own choice about dancing. "I wanted it to be something she really wanted to do. It's not for everyone. It is for me." . . A flurry of sight and sound will fill Ihe Capitol Theatre stage in Salt ake City on Saturday, Sept. 12, as the Utah Regional Ballet presents ;"Cinderella". Guided by Artistic Director Jacqueline P. Colledge, the two performances will feature guest artist Hugh Bigney, soloist with Pacific Northwest Ballet. ' The title role of Cinderella will be danced by Laura Clarke and Corinne Adams. The group also offers a traditional Christmas favorite, "The Nutcracker" and has audiences for played to sold-ou- t several seasons, this past year at the De Jong Concert Hall on the campus of Brigham Young University. Costumes were designed by Sarah B. Price; Sound Director is Paul Dunkley; and the Scenic Design came from Bill Kirkpatrick, noted with my own ballot company. Sometimes when a mother is in labor, her baby's umbilical cord can be in such a position that it becomes trapped between the uterus and the baby itself during each contraction. This can cause deceleration of the infant's heart (a drop in the heartbeat). This puts the baby in stress, which means that he is not getting enough blood. The procedure is relatively new to this area and this was the first time it was performed at American Fork Hospital. "This seems like such a simple procedure," says Dr. Lamoreaux, "but it is really revolutionary. This is the first time anything has been injected in a mother's uterus during labor. Amnioinfusion stops the heart decelerations. This takes stress off the baby and allows the mother to have a normal delivery.''
