Grove Coach Ken Robinson is pleased with his team's performance in the first region game against South Summit last Friday night. "We're happy with what we've accomplished so far. We got our first region win against South Summit, and the next night we won a game with Pleasant Grove." The Pioneers play North Summit here next Friday, and then will take Cedar City in Saturday's on home game. Coach Robinson said that the Pioneers one loss this far into the season was probably his fault. "We'd stressed offense in our practices, and we hadn't had time to practice defense. It showed in our game with Tooele. We've been doing something about it since and I'm sure our defense will be okay from now on." The 89 score Lehi posted in the South Summit substantiates the fact that Lehi has something going offensively. In fact, Matt Calton, the Pioneers' 6'5' center, is averaging 22.8 points in four games with an averae of 13.8 rebounds per game. Not too far behind Calton is teammate Matt Redmond, 6'7' center-forwar- d who is averaging 15.2 with 11.2 rebounds. Those statistics must prove formidable to opponents, not to mention Scotty Price's 15.3 average from the guard line. The offensive outpouring is enhanced even beyond that because Ty Cunningham and Al Peters are also averaging in double figures. That's a total of five Pioneers in double figures over four games. On the minus side of the ledger, Peters was hurt in last weekend's action. He pulled ligaments in his ankle, but is expected to be back at full strength next week. Brent Morrill, standout guard for the Pioneers, suffered a knee injury in the Tooele game and will be lost to the Lehi team until the latter part of the season. "We'll miss Brent in the lineup," Robinson said. "But, he's a fighter. If he works hard, he'll be back with , C lf us." 11-2- 3-- A nt 4. 4- f lf 89-6- j i J Final score of the South Summit The score at the end game was 4 of he first quarter was Lehi. They tallied 17 more points in the second period, 25 in the third and 23 in the final quarter. Compare that to South Summit's 10 in the second period; 16 points in the third quarter and 23 in the fourth quarter. In Saturday night's game with the Vikings, Lehi ended the game with a winning margin Lehi led by only three points at the end of the first quarter, but the Vikings by five more points in the second period. Pleasant Grove closed the gap a bit in the third quarter, but Lehi bounced back in the fourth period outscoring the 9 to snare the impressive Vikins victory. , . 1 J LJ - - - i J 1 1 I .. k . x 87-7- 1. J Price hit two goals in that 1 1 contest. The Vikings have a strong basketball program which makes the win all the more important. "We have the nucleus to do it all," Robinson said. The Pioneers will have two more schools opportunities to play when they play Cedar City Saturday night. They will also play Pineview, school from St. George another in an upcoming contest. In the meantime, the Pioneers are practicing their drills on defense, and will put the knowledge to good use in a game with North Summit Friday here. Lehi's scoring went like this against the Vikings: Price, 20; Veach, 5; Calton 32; Redmond, 16; Smith, 10; and Cunningham, 6. fir m Christmas time is not a time for anyone to be alone.
