Show Citizen, Press, Review, Wed., Aug. 20, 1986 - Page 13 Local wmeers amounced at Comity Fair Crowds of excited visitors at tended the events of the Utah County Fair and rodeo last week at the county fairgrounds in Spanish Fork. Miss Utah County Shana Houston and her attendants Karen Harmer and Shelene Englund reigned over the fair during the week. Fair week began with one of the state's largest horse shows in the rodeo arena on Monday and Tuesday. The horse show always begins before the fair officially opens. Fans turned out in large numbers for this year's show. Events included calf roping, and barrel racing, team roping, open performance, cow cutting and the costume class. The fair officially opened Wednesday at 5 p.m. with Governor Norm Bangeter in attendance. The theme of the fair was "Share Utah's Heritage" to commemorate the state's 90th birthday. Two large birthday cakes were presented to the Governor and then to the public to celebrate the occasion. also included enFestivities tertainment provided by Chantilkly Lace, Jazzin' and other groups. The National Guard posted the colors, and soloist Craig Evans sang the National Anthem. All exhibits were open to the public and judging of entries began. Thursday was Senior Citizen's Day at the fair. All seniors in the county were invited to a luncheon at the Spanish Fork Senior Citizen's Center. Awards were presented, and then seniors visited the fair. Special entertainment was provided for them. Entertainment at the fair included "Sage," Marvin Payne, Double Trouble, Miss Provo Tambi Sorenson, Jim and Dave, and others. Country and pop music star Sylvia performed in the rodeo arena for an enthusiastic crowd Thursday night. She sang the title song from her newest album, "Knockin' Around" and other hits including "Snapshot," "Cry Just a Little Bit" 4-- H "Fallin'InLove." ' Friday was Kids' Day at the fair. Kids' and Dogs' Show was judged based on originality, humor, and colorful costumes. The event The continued in a parade through the fairgrounds and other kids events. Friday and Saturday nights SlashC Rodeo Company and its all proven bucking stock provided the rodeo. Events included ladies barrel race, bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, calf roping, steer wrestling, bull riding, and team roping. The 1985 rodeo royalty were in attendance.
