Almond Delight B39 i&l 7 Tender of Matt Calton, Ken Calton and Cheri Calton, said that his month-lon- g trip to New Zealand, Australia and Tahiti, was a valuable experience. Matt was chosen to be a member of the All Star 17 and under, basketball team that would play a calendar of exhibition games with teams from "down under." Prior to Matt's departure for the tour, he participated in a basketball camp at Weber. He said that he felt ready and well prepared for the and New games in Australia Zealand. Matt and his teammates, other from outstanding players throughout Utah, played by rules, which, "are not a lot different, just a few minor things," he said. The new rules apparently did not bother the Utah players too much. The 17 and under team had a 12 win-- 1 loss record in their 13 game schedule. "The countries were pretty and green," Matt said, and indicated that of the three countries he liked Australia best. "The people there were so friendly. They treated ya real good. When they noticed you're American they come up and talk and compare their life there with ours." The glamour of Tahiti didn't rub off on Matt. It was his least favorite place on the tour. "It was real expensive. They charged $9 for a cheeseburger and fries, and $20 for a roll of film. And, there were no beaches. I don't know why - we didn't play there. We just stopped in Tahiti on the way home." The calibre of basketball talent depended on how popular the sport was. "It was fun when we blew them away," Matt said. Even though some of the games were close. Their win-los- s record indicates the lack of tension for the All Stars. The competition was a good experience, Matt said. "It's a real good program. In our first games we played like everyybody's on their own - but as the tour went on everybody played together a little 109 E. 100 N., American Fork 756-760- - Call 1 Broccoli today! 4 lbs. The good looking Pioneer center said that Ron Stienke, coach of the All Stars, was pleased with the calibre of ball his team played. The food is about the same as here, "except they eat a lot of sausage there." Despite the games, the strange beds and different cooking, Matt maintained his 185 pounds weight. He will returmto play this year for Lehi High. He played center on last year's championship team, and hopes to regain the position after tryouts this fall.
