Christmas is a time for traditions and the Utah Valley Choral Society continues a tradition by sponsoring the Third Annual "Messiah" Sing-iThe event will be held Sunday, Dec. 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the Provo Tabernacle. This event is patterned after the sihg-in- s that have become popular annual occasions in Salt Lake City, San Francisco and other cities around the nation. Ralph Laycock, conductor of the Utah Valley Symphony, will direct which will feature a the sing-ismall chamber orchestra of outstanding musicians from around the valley. Soloists will include Lois Johnson, soprano; Rebecca Jar-macontralto; Marcus Denton, tenor; and Clayne Robison, baritone. A by the Utah Valley Choral Society will begin at 7 p.m. This will feature favorite Christmas n. n, rt 8 carols with the audience joining in. There will be no admission charge for the sing-ibut donations will be accepted to help cover production is funded in expenses. The sing-ipart from a grant from the Utah Arts Council and National Endowment for the Arts. With a sing-in- , there is no performing choir. The choruses will all be sung by the audience. For this reason it is imperative for members of the audience to bring their own musical scores. The members of the Utah Valley Choral Society hope, through this event, to enrich the holiday season by sharing with others in the community who enjoy music, the opportunity of joining together in singing Handel's "Messiah." n, . Christensen and Arvin J. Hullinger, both from Pleasant Grove, with 40 years of service were among four men who headed the list of 147 Geneva Plant employees honored for 15 years or more of continuous service with U.S. Steel Corporation. Christensen began his U.S. Steel career in 1945 at the former Geneva Coal Mine near East Carbon, Utah, as a maintenance mechanic. He transferred to the Geneva Plant in 1953 as a machinist apprentice and became a craftsman in 1957. The Quiet One Lightweight, Compact and Powerful Grocery stores join "Share with the Hungry program Grocery stores and food bank organizations throughout Utah will join forces in the "Share with the Hungry" program on Dec. 14. The program is sponsored by the Utah Retail Grocers Association (URGA). "We have held similar pilot programs in the Salt Lake Valley for the last two years," said Jim Olsen, URGA president. "In 1984, over 17 tons of food was collected in Salt Lake area grocery stores. Due to the success of the program, we. have decided to involve food banks and grocers all over Utah." On Saturday, Dec. 14, grocery carts designated with a "Share with the Hungry" sign will be placed near store exits.
