Alhambra Playhouse their is Theatre bringing production of "Oklahoma" to the Scera Shell opening Thursday, Sept 13, 14, 15, and 17. The Alhambra's original production of "Oklahoma" opened at the theatre in January of this year. It is directed by Cathy Johnston with Doug Jolley as assistant director (who just finished directum "Cinderella'' which also ran at the Shell). Main Z E Saddlemaker Glen Thompson, the recipient of the Governor's Award for Folk Art, will have his craftwork featured at this year's Utah State Fair. Several of Mr. Thompson's custom made saddles will be on special display in the No. 8 Crafts Building located on the south side of the state fairgrounds. Included will be the Beehive Saddle, which in 1981 was displayed at the Smithsonian Institution's Renwick Gallery. The saddle exhibit will run Sept. 2 and is open during regular fair hours. The award, which is sponsored by the Utah Arts Council and the Folklore Society of Utah, is designed to recognize an individual who has made a significant contribution to Utah's cultural heritage through the practice of a traditional art form. After 28 years of experience at saddlemaking, Mr. Thompson now works on special saddle orders, custom work and repairs from his home in Huntsville. He is known for his made-to-ordleather ground seat, his skill and artistry in tooling and for the overall quality of his saddle construction.
