Show l nursaay, June Family phone line picture pageant innovation in family counseling called the Family Help Line is now available on a basis to valley permanent residents. This new counseling approach is sponsored by the Rocky Mountain Family Institute in Orem. The purpose of the Help line is to provide a free family counseling service on the phone for those people needing help with a relationship challenge. According to Mike Averett, MSW and therapist at the Institute, the Help Line is for everyone to use and especially those who either feel they can't afford private counseling or, might be apprehensive about the counseling process. "We want people to know that reaching out for professional help can be a reassuring, rewarding experience," he said. For that reason the Family Help Line phones will be maned by licensed psycotherapists who will assist the caller in looking at alternatives to challenges, problem solving and offering advice when appropriate. The entire staff at the Institute will be involved with the Help Line An including two clinical psychologists, a PhD Family Life Educator, a family therapist and a If a therapist is not available at the time a call comes in, the call will be returned before the close of that working day. Calls will be accepted Monday through Friday. Averett anticipates that many of the calls will likely deal with the marriage relationship and the disciplining of children. However, there are no limitations as to the type of help sought Questions ranging from changing diapers to and dealing with depression building self esteem will be considered. "We do not want to duplicate the service of the already existing crises line" explains Averett "Our contribution will be in dealing with interpersonal family oriented relationships. We hope people will respond to this community service before a crises develops. It is easier to deal with a family concern before it becomes a major problem," he explains. The Family Help Line which has been offered by the Institute for the past three Christmas sessions (when family stress seems to run high) has proven so successful we are making it a permanent part of our clinic, Averett concludes.
