That salute was established by a joint resolution of Congress signed by President Gerald R. Ford in 1975 which declares "the twenty-on- e days from Flag Day through Ina as dependence Day period to honor American, that there be and activities at which the people can public gatherings celebrate and honor their country in an appropriate man21-d- by BETTY FOWLER . Fowler Lake has shrunk to mud puddles and flood excitement has dwindled to drouth stage. ; Sand baggers have emerged from the whole ordeal with aching backs and bad eyes from lack of sleep. Now is the perfect time to think about the Chris LeDoux Concert ' coming up in Lehi. Many folks in Lehi, like me, have never been to a genuine, singin' concert. I thought I'd never get as excited as I was. about the flood, but already the adrenalin is flowing, my toes are tappin' and I'm downright curous. You've heard about Kenny Rogers, Moe Bandy, Charley Pride and Loretta Lynn?? Their concerts at the Salt Palace and the Special Events Center have been Now, is our chance. We are going The Lehi Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the West's favorite new singer, Chris LeDoux in concert on June 21 at the Lehi Roundup Arena. And that isn't all. Dissent and discord has tarnished our patriotic ferver. But it has not discolored the ideals and principles upon which this great nation is based. But how often nowadays do you see Old Glory pass by at the front of a parade, or stand to sing "The Banner" at an event and notice that too many people in the crowd have forgotten what to do with their hands and where to direct their eyes during these moments of devotion to our country and our freedom. These symbols of our freedom, symbols that in the past called our ancestors to acts of courage to preserve that and maybe even more freedom, are still important today so in the past. During the 14 days between Flag Day next Tuesday and Independence Day, we encourage everyone to fly the colors of the United States of America, and to pay due respect to our nation. Pay due respect to the flag as it passes by in the parades that will pass through our city streets, with your hand on your heart and your eyes on the Stars and Stripes. And teach the young ones who are just learning to pay the same respect. Indeed, the 21 days of Honor America offer an excellent chance to teach our children to pay the proper respect for the flag and for their country. That kind of effort will help us all to celebrate and honor our country in an appropriate manner. Star-Spangl- ed Community spirit stands up to flood By BILL GIBBS The first flood stage has arrived and Lehi still stands. I hope this makes you as proud of the community as it does me. After witnessing the way people worked together I believe we could stand up against just about anything the elements could throw at us. I don't know of a single instance where help was needed that it wasn't available. I also feel that not all communities have the Jim Smiths, Julian Mercers, Russ Felts, Garry Sampsons, Karl Zimmermans, Jean Lambs or Ron Andersons. There are many others that I could name, but these people stood out to me. I'm also certain that if these people had not stood up to the task, that in a community such as Lehi, someone else would have taken their place. I've heard some remarks about some of the decisions made; it's always easy to second guess after the fact, but the fact is that decisions were made and I think the record speaks for itself. We had some water in basements, but I do not know of a life being lost, or a single serious injury or of a home being ruined beyond repair. Considering the water that came off the mountains, this was, in my opinion, some feat! This could not have been accomplished without the equipment made available by MDK Construction, Fox Farms, Clint Downs, Peck Brothers Trucking, Beal Roofs-Rer- oofs sure others C s Chris has already established himself, and Cindy is on her way up with nothing to stop her from reaching the top of western record charts. The Chamber of Commerce has sponsored many exciting events at including the dances Christmas, and fashion shows, Easter Egg Hunts, Roundup Days activities for children, sponsorship of floats and bands, and many other projects, but the Chris LeDoux Concert is their first effort of such magnitude. The Chamber has spent much time, work, money and ingenuity to help promote Lehi and it's citizens. Let's hope all citizens will now support the Chamber to make this Concert a big success! The Chamber is not asking for charity, for heaven's sakes. The Civic Improvement Association has sanctioned the Concert as a perfect way to prevue the big big western show on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Chris is a cowboy turned singer. He knows what rodeo and western life is all about and is he talented? Just wait until you hear him ! Most of you know Cindy O's Cinderella story. She grew up with this tremendous talent but even she didn't realize her abilities until she met up with Vern Mecham. He, together with Cindy's husband, Jim Yates, want Lehi folks to hear and see her in concert. You'll be so proud. She's touring throughout Utah now, and soon will go nationwide. She writes all her own songs and sings them with a style that is unique and exciting for anyone, country western buff or not, to hear. Get your tickets now They're available at most Lehi stores. Mark Loveridge has been promoting the concert for the Chamber of Commerce, with spots being broadcast on Radio KFTN, newspapers stories, and advertisements in parades and events throughout the county and state. Also, contrary to what some may believe, we were organized. But as with many organizations we still need to do some This has been a learning experience for most of us and in the future emergencies like this will be handled a little more efficiently. We will continue to improve our communications, our deployment of people so as to avoid duplication and having people show up only to find that someone else had already completed the task they came to do. We will do a better job of dispensing supplies, know more readily who to call on for equipment and how to more systematically keep track of where it is. Our costs will be high, but I'll wager not nearly as high as it would have been without the type of people we have. I don't mean to neglect people from other communities either. Orem and American Fork assisted and offered help. They were great. Just knowing of their offers to back us up gave us a certain security we may not have had otherwise. I'd like to thank you and let everyone know now good it makes me feel to be able to live and work among the good citizens of this community. Our future is much more secure with leaders like Coach Andrus and his staff influencing a group of our future leaders like those who are members of the Lehi football team, who in my opinion are a real inspiration to all of us. The cemetery looked so beautiful, but there wasn't one name on the flags. I called three people, but no one could give me an answer. I feel that after giving their lives for us they really should be remembered by name at least once a year. -- Hazel Price Lehi Devoted Mr. Memmott, teacher loved by many .
