The Aztecs used to celebrate their dead in August (the month of farming). It was shifted by Catholics to November lst for dead children and November 2nd for adults. The dead have permission to visit the living on these two days. During and after these days the graves are piled up with flowers (mainly marigolds, which are the flowers of the dead), candles, pictures, and food. In churches tables are piled high with tons of favorite foods and sometimes flowers, photos, and candles. \ —01ivia Kulander Day of the Dead, or All Souls Day, is a celebration to honor the dead with joyous remembrance. Souls are said to return each year to taste again the pleasures they knew in life. These souls are often portrayed as skeletons taking part in every conceivable activity.
