Messersmith, Cedar Valley Students Contribute To Training School Again this year the students of Cedar Valley School Elementary decided to give up a little in order to make it a happier holiday season for children who might be less fortunate. Following a practice under begun former principal, John Crandall, the students of the school elected not to exchange gifts among themselves, but instead to contribute that money to a fund to be presented to the Utah State Training School. She has been a member of the Lehi High Chapter of the National Honor Society for the past four years and this year is serving as secretary. She chapter is active in school affairs and for the past three years has been a member of the Jazz Band. She has attended in and participated several band festivals. She was a member of the marching band and band the mothers in making new uniforms for the group. She has participated in the region drama festival and will represent Lehi High School at the upcoming Family Life Conference at BYU. She was a member of the orchestra for two school musicals. She has been a member of the Future Homemakers of America for the past two years and has played with the wind symphony. She has been a member of the girls' tennis team for two years and this year won third place in state in doubles. As a result, many students brought their learning achievement up to their grade level. The school provides programs for gifted students in language arts, science, music, social studies and mathematics. Their motto is "Special direction and training for students with special talents." The Guidance Department works with students and parent in formulating learning programs that, hopefully, will meet future educational and career goals. The school offers a varied program assemblies, of lyceums, field trips, social dances, etc. These are organized and coordinated so that students will have a varied and . enriching activity program during the two years they attend the junior high. Music plays an important part at the school. More than one out of every three students has participated in the band program. Each student has received at least one-hayear of vocal or instrumental training, helping them to better appreciate music in their lives. The school library is now open before and after school and during the lunch period to allow students access to the many books and other educational materials housed there.
